The Texas Rangers have filed for bankruptcy protection. It did not have to come to this. But by favoring a sale of the team from Tom Hicks to a group led by Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan rather than a richer, better capitalized deal that was being offered, Major League Baseball angered Hicks' creditors who stood to get shafted by the sale to the Greenberg group. Now the Greenberg deal is dead, Tom Hicks is reeling from an insane amount of debt and MLB may have to fund the team like it did last season. One must ask: What was Commissioner Bud Selig thinking?

What worries me is other BB teams, golf and football.
O's are under 10K/game at home and rumor is the manager may be fired today. He leaves pitchers in too long, too much patience. They have $$ owners and low salaries. Lot of small market teams.
I see golf going two ways, municipal courses with taxes to help out and expensive private clubs where money is not a problem. We have some very good ones of both types in the Baltimore area, funny the city actually runs the better municipal courses. It's the private owners trying to pay taxes and make ends meet that will be squeezed. Bet you're glad you didn't go there.
Football, think Lions. The Ford money won't let them go belly up what about the other sad sack teams out there.
Pittsburgh won't either but a really negative to the point article from AP last week about their next season.
