PHILADELPHIA -- Donovan McNabb is changing uniforms and staying in the NFC East.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded McNabb to the Washington Redskins for a pair of draft picks on Sunday night. The Eagles will receive a second-round pick (37th overall) in this month's NFL draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick next year.

"Donovan McNabb was more than a franchise quarterback for this team," Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said. "He truly embodied all of the attributes of a great quarterback and of a great person. He has been an excellent representative of this organization and the entire National Football League both on and off the field. I look forward to honoring him as one of the greatest Eagles of all-time and hopefully see him enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton one day."

ESPN.com was the first to report that the 33-year-old McNabb had been traded.

McNabb, a six-time Pro Bowl quarterback, led the Eagles to five NFC championship games and one Super Bowl in 11 seasons in Philadelphia. His failure to lead the team to its first NFL championship since 1940 plus the emergence of Kevin Kolb made him expendable.

Kolb, who has started two games in three seasons, becomes the starter. Michael Vick is the backup.

"This was a very tough decision," coach Andy Reid said. "Donovan McNabb represented everything a football player could be during his 11 seasons in Philadelphia. He carried this organization to new heights and set a high standard of excellence both on and off the field. We thank him for everything he did for this football team and for this city."

McNabb threw for 3,553 yards and 22 touchdowns with 10 interceptions in 14 games last season, leading the Eagles to the playoffs. His passer rating of 92.9 was the third-highest in his career.

But McNabb played poorly in a loss to Dallas in Week 17 that cost Philadelphia a division title and a first-round bye. He also struggled in a loss to the Cowboys the following week in the wild-card game.

Reid said immediately after the season that McNabb would return in 2010. Reid repeated that several times throughout the offseason until acknowledging last month the team was listening to offers for all three of its QBs.

"Donovan is the ultimate professional," Eagles president Joe Banner said. "He has an incredible work ethic and has been an integral part of our success. Over the years, Donovan has always carried himself with a great deal of dignity. He's an excellent role model for young men and women from across the region. In my mind, he'll always be remembered as one of the greatest Eagles of all time."

Good riddance, don't let the door hit you on the way out!

I've read none of the pro bowl players Snyder has signed have ever made a pro bowl afterwards. I suspect this will be the same. Always thought McNabb was wildly overrated.

We got the news back in PA at my parents right after cleaning up from Easter dinner. Elderly Mom said "Yea" as soon as she heard, before we knew the details. She doesn't follow football, listens from the kitchen but she's always said the Eagles were better off without him - remember Jeff Garcia.

Top news story up there from then on to today. Dad missed the Red Sox comeback win over the Yankees because of all the hoopla on the Comcast Network station over the trade.

Watching the replay recently of the Eagles-Pats Super Bowl and the two losses at the end of last season I think the Eagles should be grateful they could find a dummy like that deep pockets character from DC to take him off their hands and pay them for the privilege.

Now at least the XXXXskins games they shove down my boob tube won't be a total waste, I can watch McNabb run for his life until he get's killed behind that porous O line.

Could Bengals get wideout gift with 21st pick? NFL INSIDER By Joe Reedy • jreedy@enquirer.com • April 3, 2010

Comments (65) Recommend Print this page ShareThis Font size:AA In a draft class lacking breakout wide receivers, there's only one that has consistently received a first-round grade, and after a less-than-stellar workout on Monday the once improbable has become a strong possibility - Dez Bryant slipping to the Bengals and the 21st pick in the first round.

With less than three weeks left until teams go on the clock, let the debates really begin.

Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski was at Bryant's workout on Tuesday along with three head coaches - Seattle's Pete Carroll, San Francisco's Mike Singletary and Green Bay's Mike McCarthy. What they saw was a player who displayed great hands and looked comfortable in position drills.

What they also saw was Bryant's slow 40 times (4.53, 4.61 and 4.58) and forgetting his shoes. During the 40, shuttle and cone drills, Bryant wore cleats that he had not broken in.

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock, who was at the one-hour workout, told the Fort Worth Star Telegram afterwards that he had more questions.

"The 40 is going to bother some teams," Mayock said. "When you're talking about an elite receiver and a potential top-10 pick, a 4.55 doesn't always add up . . . You say Larry Fitzgerald ran 4.50 and 4.52 at 223 pounds, but Larry Fitzgerald was 100 percent clean off the field; Dez has some issues to deal with there.

"What you're going to see is a lot of teams doing homework and really grinding hard in case he starts to slide toward them."

While Bryant must have been channeling former Okie State standout Thurman Thomas, who also forgot a valuable piece of equipment at the most inopportune time (helmet, Super Bowl), he definitely sounded more like Allen Iverson - "We're talking about practice" - later this week when he was asked one too many questions about forgetting his cleats.

Said Bryant: "What does this got to do with me playing football? Even if I did forget my cleats, what do that have to do with me playing football? I don't think it has anything to do with me playing football."

Before Bryant's workout, Denver and Miami were thought to be the two teams that would be interested in Bryant. The Broncos have their own problems with Brandon Marshall while the Dolphins, with Bill Parcells in charge, might not want to take a risk on a receiver with plenty of red flags.

Besides, the questionable workout, Bryant still has to answer why he lied to NCAA investigators last September that ended his season after three games along with other incidents.

All of that creates a scenario where Bryant, who will be one of 30 pre-draft prospects visiting the Bengals, is available at number 21. And when it comes to the Bengals, there is one thing that is heavily in Bryant's favor - the film doesn't lie. The guy has great football speed, is talented and could be groomed to be a future number one receiver.

Also let's not forget last year, where Andre Smith had one of the worst Roads to the Draft in recent memory and was still selected by the Bengals with the sixth overall pick.

OTHER DRAFT VISITS: Besides Bryant, other draft prospects known to be visiting One Paul Brown Stadium are Texas safety Earl Thomas, Florida cornerback Joe Haden, Southern California safety Taylor Mays, Penn State tight end Mickey Shuler Jr., UConn wide receiver Marcus Easley and South Dakota State linebacker/defensive end Danny Batten.

Teams are allowed to host 30 players and the visits could signal one of three things - genuine interest, a smokescreen or to complete research on a player since they might not have had a chance to visit with him extensively during the Senior Bowl or Scouting Combine. The last three names though are interesting since they would be middle- to late-round picks.

There are also the local workouts, which are not included among the 30, and will be held on April 13. That's where UC's Mardy Gilyard and Tony Pike get one final chance to impress the Bengals along with Kentucky fullback John Conner (Lakota West), Bowling Green quarterback Tyler Sheehan (LaSalle), Morgan State wide receiver E.J. Morton-Green (Princeton), who also played at Miami University, Miami receiver Dustin Woods (Purcell Marian), Boston College center Matt Tennant (Moeller) and Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph (St. Xavier).

Other UC players that we know who will be participating are Craig Carey and Alex Daniels. Carey has been working out with Connor Barwin.

I hope they don't take Dez Bryant. But Mikey Brown's idiocy on such things has been well documented since the Old Man Died here.

I'd love to see Mickey Shuler, they need a tightend that can catch the ball, but more importantly stay HEALTHY.

And I think whoever takes Tony Pike out of the University of Cincinnati just might get the steal of the entire draft. UC had no business in the Sugar Bowl against Florida, the only reason they got there was Pike, and UC unbelievably deep quarterback roster. But Pike was The Man. Has all the tools...he's much better than Teebow when it comes to arm strength, throwing mechanics, and play recognition.

I've watched too much NFL Pre-draft stuff on the net. I think Ozzie Newsome the Ravens GM decided to grab the receivers a couple of years late but better than never. Weak receiver draft as you noted and the Ravens need better receivers. I hope Kelly Washington gets enough time and balls. I really like his talent and think he's better than where he will be on the new depth chart.

Never thought I'd see the Bengals looking for wide receivers. They had the best on the field, off the field, well that's an old story, let's hope it doesn't have any more chapters.

Ravens must be looking at the talent laden CB prospects as #1 priority in the draft now. Maybe a 4-5 round running back like everyone else.

Eagles need a RB to replace Westbrook and they are on a youth movement. Haven't seen enough to know exactly what they need, other than Vick to screw his head back on so he's ready if needed. McNabb blew their last Super Bowl, took them too long to replace him. That game was winnable for the Eagles, the loss is the fault of McNabb and Andy Reid.

Hope Palmer comes out of his funk, except against the Ravens of course. Good catching up with you again.

Housh admitted after the season he made a serious mistake in refusing to negotiate with the Bengals. Course he was in Seattle, getting his ass kicked, while the Bengals did make the playoffs without him.

I do believe you are where I was with Kelly Washington four years ago. If the lighbulb hasn't come on yet, especially with the quarterback you guys have, it isn't going to.

Like you looking at the Bengals wide receiver situation, here I'm think 'Ravens need corners?' Weird ain't it? (laughing)

Local news reported the Bengals and Bobbie Williams came to an agreement, he'll be signed to a two year contract tomorrow. We'll see how he plays, very good run blocker, but he's simply not a agile guard and its cost us on pass protection.

Vick ends up starting in Philly I guess. Hope he suffers a Theismann type career ending injury. I've never actually hoped for that with any player...but only half the shit he did with dogs ever became public. Agree complete about McNabb in his last super bowl. Very odd they traded within the Division...I wonder what Reid knows.

Always good talkin catchin up with you too.
