Watching The Cops Title: Police Officers more likely to die by suicide than line of duty First responders more likely to die by suicide than line of duty: reportCHICAGO — A plague that is killing police officers. Cops face danger every day in the line of duty, but off duty, the danger continues. A report commissioned by the Ruderman Family Foundation sheds light on an increasingly dark trend—first responders are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. Cumulative exposure to trauma, horrific accidents and shootings can lead to mental health struggles that too often go untreated. The report reveals the rate of PTSD and depression for police and firefighters is five times higher than the civilian population. In Chicago on the first day of 2019, a Chicago police officer took his own life with a gun. It’s the fifth suicide in six months locally. Nationwide, 158 police officers took their own lives in 2018. The Ruderman report suggests that for firefighters the number of suicides is under reported, thereby minimizing the crisis. Many critics said lack of resources for mental health add up to more lives lost. Mental health experts said the barriers that keep first responders from seeking help—stigma, shame, fear of being taken off the job—are powerful deterrents. Around the country, less than 10 percent of departments have suicide prevention programs. Police officers can text the word "blue" to 741741 or simply text "talk" to 741741.
Poster Comment: Police Officers are not only lethal to dogs and the general public, but they're their own worst enemies too. (1 image) Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest Could it be that militarization of the profession is taking a toll?
#2. To: Pinguinite, hondo68 (#1) There are more suicides than homicides in the USA for every category of people. So I doubt militarization has any measurable affect. In other words this isn't news at all.
#3. To: A K A Stone (#2) (Edited) There are more suicides than homicides in the USA Very intuitive. 100% spot on. The reason suicides are on the rise is because as we evolve generationally, each generation has been indoctrinated WEAKER, mentally. The weaker you are mentally, the more likely you’ll commit suicide. Also, suicides make up 80% of the gun deaths... but socialist MSM won’t remind you that when they fear monger how many gun deaths a year there are. I'm the infidel... Allah warned you about. كافر المسلح Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest |
