Sports Title: Pence Leaves NFL Game in Response to Players Kneeling During Anthem Vice President Mike Pence departed an NFL game Sunday afternoon in response to several players who knelt during the playing of the National Anthem. Pence and his wife Karen were among the spectators in Indianapolis for a contest between the Colts and San Francisco 49ers. After more than 20 San Francisco players took a knee for the song, he left. He issued a statement on Twitter at 1:08 p.m.—shortly after kickoff—explaining his decision. "I left today's Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem," he said. "At a time when so many Americans are inspiring our nation with their courage, resolve, and resilience, now, more than ever, we should rally around our Flag and everything that unites us," he added later in a follow-up statement. "While everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I don't think it's too much to ask NFL players to respect the Flag and our National Anthem. I stand with President Trump, I stand with our soldiers, and I will always stand for our Flag and our National Anthem." Lastly, he tweeted a picture of him and his wife standing with their hands over their hearts as the anthem was performed. The Colts players stood with their arms locked during the ceremony. They wore t-shirts that read "We Will" on the front and "Stand for equality, justice, unity, respect, dialogue, opportunity" on the back. Pence's act was in-line with Trump's position on the contentious cultural issue, though his words, unlike the president's have been, were formal and restrained. Trump has sounded off about kneeling players, infamously calling any of them who do so a "son of bitch" at a rally for Sen. Luther Strange in Alabama two weeks ago. The protests were widespread that weekend and have continued in lesser numbers since. Poster Comment: Obviously this was planned. The 49ers fell for it. #2. To: Tooconservative (#0) Pence for President -- 2024
#3. To: misterwhite (#2) A very deft way for Pence to stir the pot in his hometown, dumping on the 49ers and praising the patriotism of his Colts. I think this will play well and set off a fresh round of Anthem Wars on Twitter.
#4. To: Tooconservative (#3) Well, I still think standing with interlocked arms is disrespectful. Better than kneeling, but they should protest before or after the anthem.
#5. To: misterwhite (#4) (Edited) Well, I still think standing with interlocked arms is disrespectful. Trump did say he was fine with it. So they are obeying Trump. And linked arms aren't such a big thing. Notice above that Pence and his wife had hand-over-heart but the general just stood there with his arms at his side. No one has IDed the general yet. Nope, he's Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Courtney P. Carr, appointed by Pence to lead Indiana Army and Air National Guard, the Indiana Guard Reserve. Anyway, it sure looks like him.
#6. To: misterwhite (#4) (Edited) Yup, Trump put Pence up to it. DailyCaller: Trump Asked Pence 'To Leave Stadium If Any Players Kneeled' Looks like they were tied at 23 points when the 4th quarter ended. Apparently the Colts made a kick and won it 26-23 in overtime. The flag-haters lost. So there.
#7. To: Tooconservative (#6) The flag-haters lost. So there. True. As did any Colts fans who left the game. A real nail-biter.
#8. To: misterwhite (#7) I'll bet Pence watched it on TV. I hear he has connections.
#9. To: Tooconservative (#8) I'll bet Pence watched it on TV. Well, Trump told him he had to leave the game. He said nothing about sports bars.
#10. To: Tooconservative (#0) " Pence Leaves NFL Game in Response to Players Kneeling During Anthem " Well, I'll bet the bruthas won't be happy with him. They will say he bez rasis. Si vis pacem, para bellum

To: Stoner (#10) The Left is ripping Pence up on Twitter. Pence did leave Las Vegas to go to the game, knowing that the 49ers had been kneeling. And he flew back to CA after he left the game. So now they're saying it was a total put-up by Trump, just to have Pence walk out. They say that the press corps was told to stay in the parking lot because Pence was not expected to stay at the game more than a few minutes.
