Ms Damond, also known as Justine Ruszczyk, was killed in Minneapolis about 11.30pm local time on Saturday after two officers responded to a report of a possible assault.
The 40-year-old, who was originally from Sydney, was a trained veterinarian who worked as a spiritual healer and meditation teacher.
She was engaged to marry her 50-year-old partner Don Damond in August.

Ms Damond ran her meditation workshops at the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community, which paid tribut in a Facebook post.
"We are so sad to report the tragic shooting of Justine Damond," the community's post said.
"Justine was one of the most loving people you would ever meet. We can't even imagine LHSC without her."
Neighbours and friends are demanding answers as to why the popular woman was shot by police. Minneapolis mayor Betsy Hodges wants to know why the officers' body cameras were off.
She was engaged to marry her 50-year-old partner Don Damond in August.
"I am heartsick and deeply disturbed by what happened," she posted on Facebook.
"I have been working on behalf of all of you all night and all day and I will continue to do so.
"I share your questions and concerns and continue to seek answers."
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said two Minneapolis police officers responded to a 911 call of a possible assault just north of the 5100 block of Washburn Avenue South.
"At one point an officer fired their weapon, fatally striking a woman," it said in a statement.
"The officers' body cameras were not turned on at the time and the squad camera did not capture the incident.
"Investigators are attempting to determine whether any video of the incident exists."
Neighbours are now demanding answers, leaving a sign out asking police "why did you shoot and kill our neighbor and friend?" Source: Twitter
Ms Damond's personal website says she trained as a veterinarian and practised yoga and meditation for 17 years.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it's providing consular support to the family of an Australian woman killed in the US.
A vigil for Ms Damond is planned for 6pm Sunday in Fulton, near the scene of the shooting. (1 image)

I'll bet the cops will claim that they "feared for their lives". That line always works as justification for killing an innocent citizen.

You have to turn them on. This is on top of getting info and not getting killed by some pyscho. Not to mention not getting in a wreck while driving there.
Maybe the dispatcher needs to remind them to turn on cameras when they are giving out the info on what is going on. They may need to make it mandatory or even automatic switch when leaving the vehicle.
Im not sure about the car camera.
I know one thing they are sure being quiet about it.
Like always I will wait till I hear all or most of the facts to make my mind up.

Let's not get carried away,here. Yeah,there ARE too many police shootings of innocent and unarmed citizens,but there are 10's of thousands of police/citizen events every day that end with no violence on anyone's part.
The biggest area where the police fail is the SOB's tend to ALWAYS cover for another cop,no matter what he or she does. A cop could set fire to a nursery,and the other cops would try to make excuses for him. Some thing are just inexcusable,and the people responsible for doing them needs to be punished to the fullest extent possible,regardless of who they are.
In the long run,this "cop covering for cop" thing ends up hurting them a lot more than it does protecting them.

Here's what I see emerging from this story: This department has some training issues that need to be corrected. 1) It should be automatic for an officer to turn on the bodycam when he steps out of the vehicle. 2) The vehicle cams should be checked before leaving the parking lot, as the rest of the vehicle operation equipment should be.

As long as the govenrment is focused on the WOD's they will never find enough police that can "Walk and Chew Gum". Government needs warm bodies to fill the gaps. Police are ask to do too much by the government. Who really cares if someone is wearing a seatbelt? Cut the numbers get better candidates and they can be paid fairly.

Apparently he is unwilling to make a statement about what happened and without bodycam there is little evidence anyone did anything. The driver was an inexperienced cop and this low life had strikes against him for bad behaviour.
