The Water Cooler Title: Failed Tennessee Republican ‘Family Matters’ Congressional Candidate Arrested For Hitting Wife Brad Staats, a Tennessee Republican who lost a congressional election earlier this month, was arrested Sunday on a charge of domestic violence. On the campaign trail, the self-billed “family matters” candidate championed so-called conservative values like blocking marriage equality, denying women the right to abortions and preventing undocumented immigrants from becoming citizens. Staats lost to Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN) by a margin of 32 percent to 65 percent, and thanked his wife in his concession speech. Last weekend, however, the 43-year-old Staats wasn’t interested in saying much, telling a reporter for The Tennessean that his arrest is “not what it appears to be.”
Officers confronted Staats after responding to a call from his wife, Bethany, who claimed he slapped her across the face and left a bright red palm print. Police confirmed in an affidavit (PDF) that she appeared to have been marked by a blow to the face. He was later booked on misdemeanor domestic assault and released on a $5,000 bond. Staats came to national notoriety in October when he published a photo of a silver semi- automatic firearm on his Facebook page, along with the message, “Welcome to Tennessee, Mr. Obama.” He later told reporters that the post was not intended to threaten the president, but was instead meant to criticize a United Nations treaty dealing with the illegal trade of small firearms. The treaty was not mentioned in his original post. Conspiracy theories about the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty are popular with many conservatives, but in reality the treaty failed to gain support after the U.S. and other countries declined to sign on earlier this year. While the U.S. did say it supports more debate on the treaty, the Obama administration insisted earlier this month that it would not agree to anything that “infringes on the constitutional rights of our citizens to bear arms.” Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest Brad Staats, a Tennessee Republican who lost a congressional election earlier this month, was arrested Sunday on a charge of domestic violence. Which means precisely dick. Having a wife call the cops, to complain that she's being abused, happens all the time, and the cops have to arrest SOMEONE when that happens. It's merely another way in which the system is rigged. Ain't no surprise. But really, why post some minor domestic disturbance issue, when there are so MANY crimes that haven't been prosecuted, eh??? Another attempt to distract from o'Bungler and his cronies, Lyin' Brian??? What about John Corzine, who stole $1.8 BILLION? "Operation Fast and Furious?" "Benghazi????" Thanks for playing, asshat. Aren't you socialists PROUD??? #2. To: Capitalist Eric (#1) Of course the 'slap marks' mean nothing? You beat your old lady...oh, that is right. She likes it! Laughing at you again...oaf. Never swear "allegiance" to anything other than the 'right to change your mind'! #3. To: Brian S (#2) Of course the 'slap marks' mean nothing? That's right. Men use their fists, women slap.
Which, of course, is why it never occurred to you, being as... "testicularly challenged..." as you are. Thanks for playing. Asshat. The ultimate result of Democrat party politics:
Aren't you socialists PROUD??? #4. To: Capitalist Eric (#3) That's right. Men use their fists, women slap. You sound well experienced in this, but you are wrong again. Men slap as well as women and women use their fists too. Almost every country in the Middle East is awash in oil, and we have to side with the one that has nothing but joos. Goddamn, that was good thinkin'. Esso posted on 2012-01-13 7:37:56 ET #5. To: mininggold (#4) Eric's defense of a wife-beater is quite revealing.
#6. To: Fred Mertz, Capitalist Eric (#5) Fred Eric merely pointed out that sometimes women lie about abuse. He basically said her word doesn't mean anything happened. Innocent until proven guilty. Do you remember that kind of America. Or did you throw it all away when you got down on your knees and prayed to the dead spirits and they said destroy America vote Zero.

#8. To: A K A Stone (#6) Bull crap. He says wife-beating is no big deal and the wife is likely lying. How many times do you think his wife called the cops on him?

LOLOL But I've never heard Brian's opinion on the War of 1812, or the Great White Way either, so until he gives an opinion on every incident that ever happened ........ But yep.... Poppy Bush shoulda never started it. And Clinton should have broke ranks with his Bush daddy and pulled the FBI out of the area. I guess I was painting with too fine a brush, for Fred to discern such nuances. Perhaps next time, I'll just use a crayon. The ultimate result of Democrat party politics:

#12. To: Fred Mertz (#8) He says wife-beating is no big deal and the wife is likely lying. No, that's not what I said.
How many times do you think his wife called the cops on him? It's never happened. The only time I threatened a woman with physical violence, was while I was still in the Navy... a large black woman threatened to beat me up... she was... I don't know, maybe 6 feet tall, 250-300 lbs... I'm 5'10" at 160 lbs. So when she threatened me, I told her if she wanted to fight like a man, than I'd beat her like a man... She suddenly decided it wasn't such a good idea, and backed down. I've never raised my hand against a woman. Back to the point... I know of three different men who were accused by their wife or girlfriend of physical abuse. Two had no evidence, the other scratched her face. Each time, the guy was tossed in the pokey, forbidden from going back to his own house, and basically losing everything. And these were guys who were very calm, very mature... But the woman gets pissed off, or thinks she can 'get over' on her man, and makes bogus accusations, and he finds himself in a living Hell. Interestingly enough, the woman making the accusations ultimately ended up being far more miserable after the dust had settled, and she was forced to live with the results of her actions [so I suppose there is some justice from that...] I've even been asked to provide testimony about sexual-harassment accusations against someone... by a senior enlisted woman who had made so many ugly remarks about me, I could have easily gotten her booted from the military. She was well above my rank, and could have made my life miserable, if I didn't play her game... I refused, told her if I was going to testify against anybody, it'd be against her, for all the shit I had to tolerate... I certainly wasn't going to provide ammo to her (and a couple of her dyke friends) against someone who had done nothing wrong... I don't take kindly to spousal abuse- and I've seen examples of both directions- but the empty accusation with no real evidence to back it up, is bullshit. The system is rigged to allow women to play the victim, even when there was no crime, and no victim. They don't like their hubby? Fine, get a divorce. Quit bitching, quit making empty accusations because you feel you married a bum, or are unhappy. The ultimate result of Democrat party politics:
