The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is calling for people to wear purple in support of LGBT youth after conservative columnist Ann Coulter joked that “Disown Your Son Day” should follow last week’s “National Coming Out Day.”
In a post to Twitter earlier Tuesday morning, Coulter wrote, “Last Thursday was national ‘coming out’ day. This Monday is national ‘disown your son’ day.”
Out of the dozens of people responding on Twitter, not one seemed to find any humor in Coulter’s joke.
“You realize that people commit suicide because of comments like this right?” DoSomething.org Chief Marketing Officer Naomi Hirabayashi asked.
“Gay kids 4 times more likely to attempt suicide. 8 if rejected by parents. Way to go being human Ann!” Dino tweeted.
GLAAD’s Aaron McQuade suggested that Coulter’s remark could be used as an opportunity to talk about how families are now more likely to embrace their LGBT sons and daughters.
“There was a time in our culture’s history when, if thousands of LGBT kids were to come out on the same day, the next week genuinely would be exactly what Ann describes, all across the country,” McQuade wrote. “Fathers disowning their sons and kicking them out onto the street. Mothers locking up their daughters or sending them to charm school. Children forced to undergo electro-shock or even worse forms of “therapy” to rid themselves of their orientation.”
“And although we’ve come a long way from those ideas as a cultural collective, I have no doubt that last week, more than a few American households experienced the tragedy that Ann joked about,” he added. “LGBT youth who are completely rejected by their parents are more than 8 times as likely to have attempted suicide. Pretty funny, right?”
“But the idea of family rejection is one that does deserve serious attention as a society. Go purple on Friday, not just to show LGBT young people that you support them, but to show Ann Coulter what you stand for.”

There is no such thing as a gay person. It is better defined as people who sin with homo activity. They aren't born that way or anything.

Ann Coulter joins gay conservative group
Right-wing provocateur Ann Coulter has joined the advisory board of GOProud, a small Washington, D.C.-based organization that represents gay conservatives, the group announced Tuesday.
Coulter has long been a supporter of the advocacy group, which claims the support of a string of high-profile conservatives, including anti-tax activist Grover Norquist, online media mogul Andrew Breitbart, and Republican strategist Roger Stone, all of whom serve on the organization's advisory board.
"I am honored to serve in this capacity on GOProud's Advisory Council, and look forward to being the queen of fabulous," Coulter said in a statement.
Coulter headlined GOProud's first national meeting last fall, where she sparred with attendees over gay marriage, a policy she personally opposes.
"Gay rights advocate" might not be the first thing that comes to mind for most people when they think of Coulter--who calls herself "the right-wing Judy Garland"--but she says that she has a secret gay fan base.
"I didn't expect that so many gays would be such huge fans of mine, but yet, it's true," Coulter said during a recent interview with C-SPAN. "I think all gays who were born gay are overwhelmingly conservative--maybe apolitical--and all those angry gays, causing trouble for everybody, I don't even think they were born gay, I just think they were angry at their fathers."

I don't really like her.
Especially when Bush was President.
Since Obama has become President her attacks on him are pretty accurate.
