One day after Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga missed out on having just the 20th perfect game in Major League Baseball history when an umpire admittedly blew the call on what would have been the final out of the game, General Motors presented Mr. Galarraga with a 2010 Corvette convertible.

The presentation was made before today's game at Comerica Park in Detroit, barely 14 hours after Mr. Galarraga's near-perfection made news across the country.

GM North American President Mark Reuss, who presented a Chevrolet Corvette to Mr. Galarraga, said the way the pitcher had handled the umpire's call and the aftermath showed that he deserved to be recognized regardless of what record books would ultimately show.

Mr. Reuss said he has known the Ilitch family, owners of the Detroit Tigers, his whole life and the family has always been a great supporter of GM. The Tigers, in fact, kept the General Motors logo in center field at Comerica Park even after the company pulled back its sponsorship two years ago.

WXYZ-TV Detroit just reported that Selig office is claiming that they have not made a 'final' decision on overturning the umps call.

You know, maybe the best thing that ever happened to Armando Galarraga was the blown call at first. He's a major celebrity now, he'll be on Leno, Letterman, et al., and he'll get an endorsement deal.

Meanwhile, ask anyone who isn't a baseball fan if they know who Dallas Braden is.
