The Water Cooler Title: Republican Rep. Mark Souder To Resign Over Affair With Female Staffer He survived a bitter primary two weeks ago, but now the Indiana Republican reportedly plans to resign amid allegations of an affair. According to Fox News, Rep. Mark Souder will announce his resignation today after it was revealed he had an affair with a female who worked on his district office staff. The extent of the affair would likely have landed him in front of the House Ethics Committee. "I wish I could have been a better example," Souder reportedly will say, according to a statement obtained by Fox News. "In this poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process." The eight-term Congressman reportedly believes he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff." Souder has been absent from Washington, D.C. most of last week, Fox News reported, missing several votes. He has denied having an affair in the past. He has been a vocal supporter of "traditional family values," and first took office in 1994. "I believe that Congress must fight to uphold the traditional values that undergird the strength of our nation," he says on his Web site. "I am committed to preserving traditional marriage, the union of one man and one woman." Indiana's Gov. Mitch Daniels, a Republican, will be required to select a replacement for Souder, which will likely spark a fierce political battle among Democrats and the GOP. New York's Rep. Eric Massa similarly resigned his House seat earlier this year after accusations he sexually harassed a male staffer. The eight-term Congressman reportedly believes he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part- time member of my staff." Why would it matter if it's "mutual"? We learned from the Great Clinton Cock Hunt that "sex" with a subordinate is coercive.
#49. To: war (#1) We learned from the Great Clinton Cock Hunt that "sex" with a subordinate is coercive. What should have bothered you about that whole business (and it obviously doesn't)was that Clinton's choice of tactics was to find a way to trash and discredit Lewinsky instead of simply owning up to what he did. He probably would have gotten away with it, too, if not for the blue dress and you would have been on here to this day claiming it never happened and was all just a smear job and that Lewinsky was just a GOP plant.

To: no gnu taxes (#49) (Edited) What should have bothered you about that whole business (and it obviously doesn't)was that Clinton's choice of tactics was to find a way to trash and discredit Lewinsky Chuckles...no more so than you writing that piece of fiction... My interest in Lewinsky was nil until the GOP used it in an attempted coup. Then I vowed to work against the National GOP at every turn.
#53. To: war (#50) My interest in Lewinsky was nil until the GOP used it in an attempted coup. It was Clinton as the Road Runner to the GOP's Wile E. Coyote.
#55. To: lucysmom (#53) I wonder if it had been your 'Lucy' if you would feel the same way. Kinda doubt it, giving YOU the benefit of doubt here.
#60. To: Badeye (#55) I wonder if it had been your 'Lucy' if you would feel the same way. I hope my Lucy is smart enough to not flash her thong for a married man.

Thats not what I asked. I asked if you would feel the same way you indicated above. You state the obvious here. Now, if you could, answer my question.
#69. To: Badeye (#64) You state the obvious here. Now, if you could, answer my question. This is an internet forum, not a court - I'll answer as I see fit. Monica wasn't innocent, Clinton certainly wasn't innocent, but the person I would have the most disdain for is that woman who pretended to be Monica's friend and secretly taped phone conversations, encouraged Monica to save the blue dress, and was paid off in plastic surgery. I pray my daughter be protected from "friends" like that.
#70. To: lucysmom (#69) This is an internet forum, not a court - I'll answer as I see fit. That answers my other question: How hypocritical are you? Apparently, quite a bit....(laughing) Run along, goofysmom.
#73. To: Badeye (#70) hey man, long time no debate!!
#74. To: AlBundy (#73) (Edited) long time no debate!! This is the way of that mad individual who calls him self badeye. He no debates any of the topics. He tries to make the internet people his friend and tell them his life is magnificent above all others. He is a little man with big suspenders. Oh the desert wind blows but what has it accomplished except to pile a bit more sand here and there. But we already had sand here and there and didn't need any more. So it is with the things the badeye man types with his sausage fingers.
#76. To: Abu el Banat (#74) me, Badeye and war go way back. And after years it seems the online debate remains the same.
