Fiat money systems are tools used by centralized power structures as a means of economic and political control. Today an ounce of fine gold will buy about the same amount of goods that it would buy a hundred years ago, even though the dollar "value" of that ounce of fine gold has gone several orders of magnitude up through the roof.
