April 30 (Bloomberg) -- Business activity in the U.S. expanded at a faster rate in April, a private report showed.
The Institute for Supply Management-Chicago Inc. said today that its business barometer rose to 63.8 this month, the highest level in five years, from 58.8 in March. Figures greater than 50 signal expansion.
Economists forecast the gauge would rise to 60, according to the median of 55 projections in a Bloomberg News survey. Estimates ranged from 57 to 63.
