House Republicans Set Legislative Priorities After Electing Mike Johnson as Speaker

Oct 27, 2023

By yourNEWS Media Staff

After the election of Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the House is tasked with addressing several pressing bills.

The shift in leadership came after the House’s decision on October 3 to remove Kevin McCarthy as its speaker. This action, initiated by Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz along with other conservative representatives and all House Democrats, resulted in a 22-day standstill. During this period, House Republicans faced challenges electing a replacement, seeing three nominees withdraw. Johnson’s election marked the end of this hiatus, allowing the House to refocus on key legislative concerns, primarily appropriations and authorization bills.

The House is under pressure following the passage of a continuing resolution on September 30, which was vital to avoid a government shutdown. By November 17, the House needs to pass all 12 appropriations bills or another continuing resolution to prevent potential shutdown scenarios. To date, the House has approved five of these 12 bills related to various departments, yet none have received Senate approval.

680344355 Letter From Mike … by yourNEWS Media

Post Johnson’s election, the House passed a resolution condemning Hamas for its attacks on Israel. Following this, they addressed an appropriations bill associated with the Department of Energy and water management. This bill was passed on Thursday. However, concerns arise about the limited time to discuss the remaining bills and to reconcile any differences with the Senate through the “conference” process.

Republican Rep. Brett Guthrie voiced concerns, stating “We are not going to pass all appropriations bills. We’re going to have to do something to meet the Nov. 17 deadline.” Rep. Dan Newhouse concurred, highlighting the urgency and likelihood of another continuing resolution.

Beyond standard appropriations, Congress will also review additional funding requests from the Biden administration. One request seeks $106 billion for military aid to Israel and Ukraine, while another aims for $56 billion for disaster relief and other purposes.

Republican Rep. Mike Garcia commented on the aid package, emphasizing a preference for separate considerations for Israel and Ukraine. Another concern raised was fiscal responsibility, with Republican Rep. Chip Roy stating aid must be offset by spending cuts.

Furthermore, the House is slated to discuss reauthorization for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). An extension was provisionally granted until December 31, 2023, following the passage of H.R. 3935 on July 20. Yet, with the Senate proposing different legislation, a consensus is still needed.

In addition, the House will review the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2024. Separate NDAA versions passed in both chambers, and a conference committee is currently working on reconciling the differences.

On October 23, Johnson shared a letter detailing his legislative priorities for the remainder of the 118th Congress. Besides appropriations and national defense, Johnson expressed an intent to address the Farm Bill by year’s end. This bill, which determines agricultural policy, is essential for U.S. food production and holds significant importance for representatives from agricultural states.

However, with the House scheduled to be away from Washington, D.C., for six weeks between October 26 and December 31, according to the Majority Leader’s website, the feasibility of passing all proposed legislation within the year remains uncertain.

As of the time of reporting, Johnson’s office has not provided a comment.

Number One Priority...CLOSE the Border and SUSPEND ALL Asylum claims!!

Then, we debate our financial commitment to Israel.

Finally, debate Ukraine spending...what have we spent so far and where did it go? What is our strategy for "Winning" this border dispute? What is our End Game? If you want to argue for multiple never-ending military commitments, you are out of your minds. The U.S. Federal Government is broke, our oil reserves are depleted, our munitions stores are all but barren, and the Oval Orifice is being despoiled with the Worst POTUS in American history. Plus, who the heck is going to fight WWIII? Military recruitment has hit abysmal levels, and the college nutjobs are more likely to join anti-American terrorist groups than defend the interests of WeThePeople.

We need to elect a POTUS whose primary goal is to end these regional conflagrations...Donald Trump has a demonstrated record of success and I believe he has the necessary worldview and temperament to succeed in bringing some much- needed sanity to the White House. Problem is...how does the U.S. survive the next 15 months with TraitorJOE Biden continuing to do the bidding of the Chinese Communist Party?

Delusional Trump supporters are saying Mike Johnson is pretty much the same as having Trump as Speaker. They say having Johnson as Speaker is a great victory on setting things right in America.

Actually, no. Here's Mike's first priority:

“The first bill I’m going to bring to this floor in a little while will be in support of our dear friend Israel and we are overdue in getting that done,” Johnson said as he accepted the speakership.

"Dear Israel" first...America, not so much.

I don't see where having Johnson instead of McCarthy as Speaker will result in much difference as far as significant legislative accomplishments over the next 15 months...the RAT-controlled Senate will see to that.

However, I do have some hope that Johnson's Speakership will do a better job delineating the differences between a non-RINO GOP agenda versus the oppressive Marxist agenda being championed by the Left, as we move into the upcoming election season...MUD

It remains to be seen, but I prefer Johnson's relatively short time immersed within the DeeCeeSwamp. McCarthy was full-blown RINO Uniparty, just like McConnell in the Senate.

If we are going to be able to save this country from its current implosion, we need leaders who recognize that DeeCee is always the problem, never the solution. It will take the election of more Representatives and Senators with the cajones to call this out and legislate accordingly.

If Speaker Johnson has the gravitas to pass common sense conservative legislation over the next 12 months, you can be sure the RAT- controlled Senate and TraitorJOE will kill it in its crib. However, it will give the 2024 electorate a clear vision of a future with Trump as POTUS and both houses of Congress in GOP control.

Elections have ceased to exist.

My vote was stolen in 2020 and I will not vote again until that vote is accounted for.

Thus far, Traitor Johnson has refused to answer the question as to if he believes the 2020 election stolen.

Obviously, he nor anyone else cares about my vote.

My fervent prayer: that he and the rest of his Republican cronies burn in hell.

"The stolen election was the final nail in the coffin of the United States of America"

1960 was also a "stolen election" as Kennedy "wins" in Texas and Illinois were corrupt as hell. We overcame that fiasco, but instead of a couple of corrupt State elections, now the "by whatever means necessary" DemocRAT Party promotes electoral shenanigans in every city they control. I agree we haven't done nearly enough since 2020 to close the loopholes to cheating championed by the Left, but giving up on elections ain't the answer...MUD

We are transitioning out of the age of grace, into a time of judgment.

Revelation 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

We are already "in those days". The above verse will occur in a few short years.

our future prospects as a species

Here is our future prospects until God gets things sorted out:

And unless those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved; MATTHEW 24:22

Did you know that all God does is give mankind what he wants. God will plead with man, and He will die for man in order for man to have life. But in the end man has free will and God has to honor that.

Does this sound like love...

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? "Nazi Army Included 150,000 of Jewish Descent"

While I do not doubt that there were Jews who renounced their religion out of fear of their lives, and were conscripted into the German War Machine, I don't think that has anything to do with the truth of the Jewish Holocaust in WWII.

"...the remote possibility that Hitler's grandfather was Jewish."

I had heard Hitler's mother was half-Jewish, and that Hitler's over-the- top hatred of Jews was his over-compensating for this perceived genetic weakness. Still not evidence against the existence of the Holocaust...MUD
