Biden’s $106 Billion Aid Proposal: Here’s the Breakdown Oct 21, 2023

The White House unveiled the specifics of President Biden’s urgent funding request to Congress on Friday, which primarily focuses on military aid allocations for Israel and Ukraine.
The proposal sums up to approximately $106 billion, encompassing aid for Israel, Ukraine, humanitarian assistance to Gaza, enhanced U.S. border security, and additional funds aimed at bolstering security in the Indo- Pacific region and countering Chinese financial endeavors in developing nations.
According to the data from the White House Office of Management and Budget, the funding distribution is as follows:
$61.4 billion in supplemental aid for Ukraine;
$14.3 billion in supplemental aid for Israel, with $10.6 billion earmarked for military assistance;
$13.6 billion for border protection measures, which includes an allocation of $1.2 billion to combat the fentanyl crisis. This allocation is slated to cover the costs for hiring 1,300 new Border Patrol agents, 1,600 asylum offices, and the formation of 375 immigration judge teams;
$2 billion dedicated to counteract PRC’s financial influence in developing countries;
Lastly, $9 billion is set aside for humanitarian aid, benefiting regions such as Ukraine, Israel, and Gaza.
Shalanda Young, the director of OMB, conveyed in her letter to Congress, “Over the coming weeks, the Administration looks forward to continued engagement with members of both parties to reach a comprehensive, bipartisan agreement to fund the Government and invest in critical national priorities.” She added that Congress has a pivotal role in reinforcing national security by addressing these pressing needs, emphasizing the importance of bipartisan support.
