To: A K A Stone (#5) Yes. And our Lord Jesus Christ has no part with either side in the current conflict. The Jews explicitly reject Jesus. The Muslim's say he was a prophet, but then say that the records of what he said and did in the Bible are fabrications, and revamp Jesus in terms of Mohammed. Jews reject Jesus as a crazy man. Muslims try to co-opt him into being a Muslim. Neither of them listen to what Jesus said, or frankly care. Jews make the Biblical claim, but their Bible does not include the parts where Jesus warned the Jews that the vineyard (Israel) and the Temple would be destroyed BECAUSE the people appointed to keep the vineyard murdered God's Son. And the Muslims claim that Allah said that no part of Dar es Islam could ever be taken away. (For the same reason, Muslims still claim Spain and Portugal.) Islam is a fanatical religion of conquest, quite opposed to Jesus. But the Jews make a claim that ignores what Jesus said about them too. NEITHER SIDE has God on its side. God said that the tents of Ishmael (the Muslims of today) and the tents of Isaac (Israel) today, would be up against each other, and that Ishmael's hand would be against everybody, and that is exactly what we see. From a religious perspective, as a follower of Christ, I reject both the Muslim and Jewish claim to Israel. I support Israel for a very practical reason: they are a democracy (of fanatics for a an exclusive religion) in a sea of undemocratic fanatics who claim the right to conquer everywhere. Israel is a useful foil to Muslim ambitions. This does not, however, make Israel RIGHT. It simply makes Israel a country we can have sympathy with because they are free and democratic, NOT because of their religion. So, exactly as Genesis says, these people are fated to be up against each other and fight until the end of time. I note that the sons of Isaac and the sons of Ishmael who follow Christ, the Middle Eastern Christians, have no dog in this religious fight. The fact that Israel is FREE causes it to be a place that has a lot more Arab Christians in it than the the Arab countries. Religiously, BOTH sides are fanatic and cracked. But secularly, Israel is a free democracy and the Muslim enemies are not. THAT is why the US should support Israel, to break the teeth of the Muslim aggressors, since the Muslims hate us too. It isn't that Israel is Jewish, it's that Israel is FREE. THAT is why we should, and will, stand for Israel. The religious nature of the war between Muslims and Jews, both of whom are wrong from the perspective of Christians, is why it will be a forever war.
