Here's a little thought experiment: what difference does it makes if you grow up going to Sunday School in Babylon versus Jerusalem, and if the distinction still applies.
Not sure what this pastor is trying to say but the words "Babylon versus Jerusalem" made me think: was there ever a distinction between the two?
I believe there never was. Jerusalem was in constant rebellion against God and the OT prophets will confirm this.
Jesus Himself called Jerusalem "...the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”
What is this obsession Christians have with Jerusalem/Israel that they blind themselves to the truth, as if Jerusalem is somehow the shining example of God and His holiness?
If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick Babylon over Sodom and Egypt any day.
