To: tankumo (#0) AOC has a set of strong, fixed ideas she wants to see done. She doesn't care HOW they get done - legislation, executive order, court order. She is committed to results, not process. In this, she and I are the same. The difference is WHAT we each want. So, I understand her, and I don't resent her for being what she is, or wanting what she wants, or even for the way that she wants what she wants: completely, utterly, without taking prisoners. I am no different. But she can't have what she wants, because what she wants, to the degree she wants it, is bad. Nobody sane wants the cops beating up black people. I don't want it. I doubt that there is more than 1 or 2% of the country who are racist enough to actually WANT that. But AOC is part of the 1 or 2% who are SO opposed to it that she wants to defund the police so that we have none. From my perspective, that's plum crazy. You have to have police, or the criminals will run everything, and that is much worse, in my mind, than criminal police bashing some black people. Neither she nor I are going to change our minds, so somebody has to decide between us. That "somebody" is the people of the United States, voting. Fortunately, more agree with me than with her, so she loses. She knows she's losing, she sees it coming, and she cares about the issues and wants a win through any means, just like me. It is up to the other people - Joe Biden, for example, and the Supremes, not to give her (or me) our victory "by any means". She, and I, are committed to our cause and don't give a damn how we get there. But most people are not so committed, so the process of getting to an answer is more important to them than the actual answer. Neither she nor I think that regarding our issues, but the broader public does, and I would say that given the choice between some sort of process result favored by the majority of the people, or some result slammed down on me by AOC, I can live with the people disagreeing with me and wanting something I don't want a whole lot more than I can live with the idea of some small cabal of people like AOC and her ilk simply dictating the result. Of course I want to dictate MY results, all of them, but I know that I can't, and given that I can't, I certainly can't stand the idea of HER doing it - given that I oppose most everything she wants. I can live with what the people decide democratically. I may not like all of it, but it has the virtue of being what the mass of people want. The masses may be asses, but they have the power of numbers. AOC just has her opinion and will. I have my own, and I'm smarter than her. I can stand being overruled by the democracy; I CAN'T stand being overruled by her.
