To hear the progressives talk of them, you'd think they are Satan incarnate, Sherriff Clarke standing in the schoolhouse steps preventing the little black girl from entering. Manchin is a Democrat. He's always been a Democrat. Hell, his family were Democrats in government going back to the 19th Century. If he wanted to fuck the Democrats, he'd just change to being a Republican and then the GOP would control the Senate. But he doesn't, because he's NOT a Republican, and wouldn't be happy as one. He's not even particularly conservative. He just sees - rightly - that rushing everything through without even a conversation with the other side is CRAZY. There's a REASON we have mark-ups, conversations in Congress, that the minority get their say. It helps make things palatable, acceptable. The other side gets SOMETHING, and that keeps the parties capable of working together. Manchin gets that. So do other members of Congress who are not strong enough to stand up. The Progressives want a revolution, without actually winning one. They cannot have it. Yes, we DO need to provide more to the various struggling poor. No, we won't provide this much, and not this way. Manchin is right, and the Democrats should listen to him.
