It was offline for roughly six hours in the biggest outage the company has experienced since 2008. Facebooks 2.9 billion users were forced to actually work and get their news from somewhere else.
Then yesterday, Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen testified before a Senate panel, telling lawmakers they must intervene to solve the crisis created by her former employers products. She said:
I saw that Facebook repeatedly encountered conflicts between its own profits and our safety. Facebook consistently resolved those conflicts in favor of its own profits. The result has been a system that amplifies division, extremism, and polarization and undermining societies around the world.
