‘Sheriff Chronister has his priorities reversed—he arrested a pastor and released a killer…’

Tampa-Area Police Arrest Pastor for Holding Church Services

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Florida law enforcement officials arrested a Christian pastor for holding a church service a few weeks ago, but released an imprisoned criminal who reportedly murdered a man the day after being let out.

The criminal, 26-year-old Edward Williams, was re-arrested in Tampa, Florida on Monday and is now facing  charges of second-degree murder, gun possession, violently resisting an officer, drug possession and paraphernalia possession, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Williams was released from prison in late March due to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus within Florida’s prison system. The release came just six days after he had originally been arrested on suspicion of heroin possession, which is a third-degree felony.

Less than one day after his release, he was involved in a fatal shoot-out in Tampa.

“There is no question Joseph Williams took advantage of this health emergency to commit crimes while he was out of jail awaiting resolution of a low-level, non-violent offense,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement Tuesday, according to NBC News.

While officials were busy releasing “any pretrial detainee for a municipal or county ordinance violation, a misdemeanor offense, a criminal traffic offense, or a third-degree felony offense” in March, they also arrested Pastor Rodney Howard–Browne, who held church services despite the state’s shelter-in-place order.

Howard-Browne, however, has said the services followed the federal government’s social distancing guidelines: hand sanitizer was passed out throughout the church, attendees maintained 6 feet of distance, and socializing was kept to a minimum.

“My heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victim murdered by a criminal that [Hillsborough law enforcement] released,” said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of the nonprofit litigation group Liberty Counsel, which was representing Howard–Browne.

“Sheriff Chronister has his priorities reversed—he arrested a pastor and released a killer,” Shaver added. “The people of Hillsborough County deserve much better.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has released 164 “non-violent” offenders over the past few months, according to NBC News affiliate WFLA. (1 image)

Fla. Sheriff Who Arrested Pastor, Releases Inmate Who Then Commits Murder

CAUTION: Association Fallacy Alert.

An association fallacy occurs when there is a hasty-generalization or red-herring type and which asserts, by irrelevant association and often by appeal to emotion, that qualities of one thing are inherently qualities of another.

This headline is a classic example of an association fallacy.

association fallacy

The Sheriff should be charged with accessory to murder.

But you must be ecstatic that the pastor was jailed.

Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen.
The essential feature of government is the enforcement of its decrees by beating, killing, and imprisoning.
Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom.

association fallacy

Yes it was – It most definitely was. There can be no question about that. The one thing had absolutely nothing to do with the other in the headline. Ergo, not only was it association fallacy, it was also a typical click bait headline for people who think and act like you do. So, bloggers use them because they know they can get the reaction from you and others to be carrier pigeons for them. The author did it – you reacted the way he wanted you to – end of that part of the story.

The Sheriff should be charged with accessory to murder.

Why?

The sheriff had absolutely nothing to do with ordering the release. If you seriously feel that you want to charge someone with murder – and knowing you from you cop-hating history I definitely believe that you do – then you want to go after Governor Ron DeSantis and Department of Corrections Secretary Mark Inch because they were the ones who ordered the release with the issuance of Administrative Order 2020-018.

It was definitely not Sheriff Chronister. Again – Sheriff Chronister had absolutely nothing to do with the release. The sheriff was merely following an administrative order from the governor. But that matters not to you. Full speed ahead and “charge the sheriff – you say. once again – “association fallacy.” It makes for good click bait headlines and bloggers know that it works.

Wait, let’s take your “clarion call for murder charges” one step further. Since Sheriff Chronister had absolutely nothing to do with the release and you want to bring charges against someone. Besides Governor Ron DeSantis and Department of Corrections Secretary, you should ask for charges against all members of the Innocence Project of Florid along with Tampa based state Rep. Dianne Hart and Congresswoman Kathy Castor for it was they who wrote the letters to the governor urging the release of prisoners. But you cop-hating attitude is “fuck that” – You only want to go after law enforcement officers. Right? Of course, I am.

Hold on, it may be that you need to bring charges against yourself. For you have been strongly advocating against the arrest of people on nonviolent assorted drug charges including possession of heroin – and that was what Williams was initially arrested for. So, according to you he should not have been in jail in the first place. Incidentally, he was never in “prison” – He was in “jail.” But the author did not want to use “jail” for it would never sound as ominous as oh bid bad “PRISON” does. You idiots are all alike in your way of thinking. The article makes it sound like Williams was a convicted hardened violent criminal when he was not.

But you must be ecstatic that the pastor was jailed.

Why is the pastor who was jailed even being discussed? That incident had absolutely nothing at all to do with the charge of murder against Williams. Come on, Deckard – Stop it already with your continued “ASSOCIATION FALLACY.”

Deckard, you seldom make sense. This was anther one of those times.
