(From the Trailer):
Legendary 11th Century Spanish patriot El Cid (Charlton Heston), who fights to drive invading Moors from Spain. He has a seductive but duplicitous lover Chimene (Sophia Loren). However, their love is tested to its limits when he kills her father, she vows vengeance and he sets out on a crusade to rid Spain of its aggressors.
From the initial movie dialogue (FULL MOVIE, below), Moslem leader Emir Yosef, bellows to his troops:
"The Prophet is commanded us to rule the world...Where in all your land of Spain there is the glory of Allah!...
"...Where are your warriors?!? You dare call yourselves sons of the prophet? YOU HAVE BECOME WOMEN!!

First of all, Happy Easter!
They don't make 'em like this any more. Movies like this should not be forgotten.
'El Cid' represents the kind of magnificent 1950s-early 1960s Hollywood epics that were once made for a public that especially paid homage to the history, roots and heritage of Western Civilization.
Film audiences for this brief era were extremely respected and inspired by Hollywood's film-makers and producers. They created high-budget spirited stories and accounts, embellished by spectacular soundtracks and composers (Miklos Rozsa), breathtaking scenery, included casts of thousands, and memorable performances -- notably by the iconic Charlton Heston.
El Cid was a true epic. It's run-time clocks in at over 3 hours long, back when (if any of you are old enough to recall) there was actually a thing called, "INTERMISSION".
This movie is FREE TO WATCH.
On a final note and observation...
The opening dialog by the Moslem general was especially interesting and ironic. Nothing about Islam's philosophy and goal of world dominance via murder and violence has ever changed; Nor has it's focus and pledge to forfeit advances in the sciences, arts, and humanities changed.

MY favorite Sophia Loren story comes from Tom Selleck on some old talk show from a decade or more ago.
He was being interviewed about being a movie star and sex symbol,and they were talking about the life-changing events of being a celebrity,and got into fantasies,both realized and imaginary.
Sellect started talking about not living very far from Sophia in Hollywood,and driving past her place practically every day.
He said he had a fantasy about driving by one day and spotting her sitting in her car with a flat tire by her gate,and stopping by to fix her flat,and then hearing her say "Tomas,would you like to come up to the house for a cup of tea?"
He said he could get a little bit dizzy just thinking about it,and even told his wife "If this ever happens,you are going to HAVE to allow me to have this one!"
Sophia was in her 60's then,Tom Selleck probably in his late 30's,and one of the hottest male stars around with teen and young 20's groupies throwing themselves at him,and he is having fantasies about a woman in her 60's.
