United States News Title: Tesla claimed its pickup truck was ‘bulletproof’ — then smashed its windows with a metal ball Elon Musk got Tesla’s design lead to throw a metal ball at one of the pickup truck’s armored windows.<
Oh my f------ God,” Musk exclaimed as the ball smashed the glass.
The price of Tesla’s Cybertruck starts at $39,900.
Tesla unveiled its futuristic pickup truck at a promotional event in Los Angeles, but when it came to showing off the vehicle’s durability, things didn’t quite go as planned. CEO Elon Musk claimed the car was “bulletproof” against a 9mm handgun. But when he got Tesla’s chief designer to throw a metal ball at one of its armored windows, audible surprise could be heard as the glass smashed — twice. “Oh my f------ God,” Musk exclaimed when it first happened. “Well, maybe that was a little too hard.” Design lead Franz Von Holzhausen gave it another shot, this time with another window. Again, the ball cracked the glass pretty badly. This was after the executive had already taken a sledgehammer to the side of the truck, striking it multiple times without leaving a scratch. “We threw wrenches, we threw everything even literally the kitchen sink at the glass and it didn’t break. For some weird reason, it broke now,” Musk said, drawing laughs. “I don’t know why. We will fix it in post.” It’s not clear whether the windows were supposed to shatter in the way that they did. But it’s apparent that Musk wasn’t expecting it, judging from his reaction. Known as the “Cybertruck,” the all-electric pickup is Tesla’s sixth vehicle since the company was founded in 2003. The vehicle’s price starts at $39,900. Analysts at Deutsche Bank said the truck unveiling left a lot of unanswered questions. “While the materials used appear robust, there could be questions about the truck’s durability when used under work conditions, especially in light of its seemingly unibody construction,” they said in a research note. “And the shattering of the truck’s unbreakable glass windows during the live demonstration was not a good start.” This isn’t the only glass to give Tesla trouble. In 2016, Musk unveiled glass solar roof tiles to drum up support for the acquisition of SolarCity by Tesla. The Solarglass roof tiles are meant to be an appealing alternative to bulky solar panels. However, Tesla has yet to mass-manufacture its Solarglass. Poster Comment: Profane billionaire bastard! Things will go very badly for Musky as the demand for vehicles that can only go 2-300 miles between charging will eventually dry up completely. Oil companies that jump on the carbon-free cars need to have their heads examined. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest #1. To: IbJensen (#0) (Edited) and for vehicles that can only go 2-300 miles between charging Lots of retired old farts with $$ whose driving consists of going to the grocery store, church, gym... not necessarily in that order. But I ain't paying $39,900.00 for a golf cart.
#2. To: IbJensen (#0) (Edited) "Bulletproof" glass is supposed to crack and smash without rebounding the bullet - where do morons think the energy of the bullet is supposed to go? Wearing a "bulletproof" vest will still kick your ass and likely knock you down. "Kinetic Energy", STEM failures. The trick is to keep bullet particles from penetrating beyond the inside layer. Looks like it passed that test. But it still looks like a useless, faggy piece of shit for a "truck", even a non-roadworthy testbed prototype, which is all this is.
#3. To: IbJensen (#0) Known as the “Cybertruck,” the all-electric pickup is Tesla’s sixth vehicle since the company was founded in 2003. The vehicle’s price starts at $39,900. Who cares about the windows? Just another good reason to build High Speed Rail & Maglev...
#4. To: Willie Green (#3) (Edited) Just another good reason to build High Speed Rail & Maglev... Public Transit: going where, and when, Big Stupid Greedy Government and its pet Greedy Union Thugs say you can..... when they're not on strike.
#5. To: Hank Rearden (#4) Then go piss away 40 grand on a fucking butt-ugly battery operated pickup truck because that's what Elon Musk is willing to build for you... Or you can wait for whatever battery operated piece of crap Ford or GM comes out with.... Or are you so fucking rich that you can afford to design your own fucking truck without having Elon Musk or the THUG designers at Ford or GM mandate what kind of new truck the misnamed "free market" will force you to choose from... (not much of a choice when all their crap vehicles all look alike.) But a stupid partisan goon like you doesn't really understand the automotive cartel anyway, do you?
#6. To: Willie Green (#5) I'm going to keep my current SUV and go where and when I need to go. Waiting for Big Stupid Greedy Government buses and trains to show up to dump me
#7. To: Hank Rearden (#6) I'm going to keep my current SUV and go where and when I need to go. You gonna run your own refinery after the thug automotive cartel switches everybody to batteries?

#9. To: misterwhite (#8) Yes. Yes, he was. Happy now?
#10. To: Willie Green (#7) BINGO. Big market for conversions like... www.facebook.com/ElectricVehicleWest
