Title: Michael Avenatti: Stormy Daniels owes me $2 million for my excellent legal work

Attorney Michael Avenatti is demanding his former client Stormy Daniels pay up for all of his excellent representation over the years. He claims she owes him $2 million for all of his hard work. From NBC News:

Avenatti, who represented the adult film actress in legal action against Donald Trump, filed a lien claim in an Ohio federal court Wednesday that says Daniels owes him more than $2,000,000 for legal services, costs and expenses…

In his lien filing, Avenatti said, “Despite repeated demands that Ms. Daniels fulfill her contractual obligations and pay for the millions of dollars in legal fees and costs she has enjoyed for her benefit over the last approximate 19 months, including in this case, she has refused.”

The Daily Beast has more about the sad state of Michael Avenatti:

Avenatti’s lawsuit this week alleges the initial February 2018 retainer agreement he made with Daniels was for “$100 up-front payment,” prompting his firm to spend “thousands of attorney and staff hours, and a significant out-of-pocket-expenses.” During his retention, Avenatti said he bailed Daniels out of jail “following her arrest in Columbus Ohio in July 2018” after a strip-club brawl and led the “successful efforts” to have the charges dropped.

“Despite the significance of his work, Ms. Daniels has yet to directly pay a single dollar to Mr. Avenatti or Avenatti & Associates, APC for their legal services beyond the $100.00 she initially paid back in 2018,” the suit states. “Ms. Daniels is required to pay her lawyers.”

Avenatti never complained about the money back when he was appearing on CNN and MSNBC once or twice a day for months on end. If you could add up the value of all that media time it would surely exceed $2 million. But, alas, Avenatti has fallen on hard times. In March he was arrested and charged with attempting to extort $25 million from Nike. Then in April he was hit with a 36-count indictment in California which accused him of embezzling money from a settlement paid to a disabled client. In May there were reports that he was about to be charged for embezzling $300k from Stormy Daniels. And in June the California State Bar moved to suspend his law license.

As a result of all of this, the poor man has lost his Ferrari and his private jet. This is really a sad story, I guess. And yet, somehow I don’t feel bad about any of it. I think Glenn Greenwald sums up “Resistance dreamboat” Avenatti’s latest claim pretty well here:

#Resistance dreamboat Michael Avenatti is suing Stormy Daniels for $2,000,000. Hard to choose who the worst lowlife is who so successfully exploited #Resistance sentiment for their own profit and benefit but he's obviously a front-runner, though by no means the clear winner: https://t.co/PS0vcjBkVw

I predict he'll have a shitty time in prison.

Aw, c'mon, I can't be the only fan of Avenatti's work here.

BTW, Stormy Daniels is the winner. She really screwed Avenatti over, even while he was trying to screw her over and even abandoned her as her lawyer when he had to choose representing her or continuing to go on cable shows.

Stormy will have the last laugh. And Avenatti goes to prison with outstanding debts that will follow him for life, well, if he ever gets out of prison and makes any money which seems unlikely.

Sorry, I didn't see your post before my last one.

People who can demonstrate their value as real lawyers can use that to buy immunity from prison violence. I'm sure Avenatti will play it that way. Well, unless he does just off himself rather than go to prison for life. He's facing some very serious prison time and probably not in a Club Fed either.

You have to wonder why they haven't proceeded to a trial. He committed extensive criminal fraud.

In May there were reports that he was about to be charged for embezzling $300k from Stormy Daniels.

And in June the California State Bar moved to suspend his law license.

In June 2019, the State Bar of California filed a proceeding to "involuntarily" enroll Avenatti as an inactive attorney—in effect, to suspend him from practicing law in California—based on evidence that, according to the State Bar, could lead to Avenatti's disbarment. Avenatti has denied all the charges.

As I read this it appears to say: After all the financial crimes Avenatti has committed or been accused of in the past few months alone...27 million and change from extortion and embezzlement, the State Bar responds: "We won't disbar you...yet. Lets just say that you are being...anyone have any ideas?

Larry:

"How about we just say that Mike is being "involuntarily enrolled" instead? Mikey's always been real nice to all of us - if you know what I mean..."

(raucous laughter ensues from the black robed "gods" and penetrates through the smoke filled room)

(Raising a glass...)

"Hey Mikey you extortin' son of a bitch ...thanks for the new Porsche!"

(more laughter)

"So it's agreed. Mike gets one more chance. Let's get outta here, I got my golf game to get to."

Government is in the last resort the employment of armed men, of policemen, gendarmes, soldiers, prison guards, and hangmen.
The essential feature of government is the enforcement of its decrees by beating, killing, and imprisoning.
Those who are asking for more government interference are asking ultimately for more compulsion and less freedom.

It seems the complexity of Avenatti's financial scams actually is shielding from trail for many months if not years. Anyone else would already be in jail and getting ready to be sentenced.

Avenatti could try to delay any prison for several more years.

What I was wondering, the way this reads, for the time being Avenatti is "involuntarily enrolled" and suspended. It looks to me like there is some wiggle room there for Avenatti.

I'm not cheering for him by any means unlike you who shamelessly exposed yourself with your fawning man-love for Avenatti (or is it "mmmmikey"?)

Get it together man!! I'm losing some of that deep and abiding respect I have for you.

I just weep over the lost opportunities.

He could have been on that debate stage with the other Dems. Avenatti 2020, a beautiful dream of what might have been. A frontrunner for the nomination, millions of Dem voters, in the grips of full Xlintonian Arousal Factor as their candidate is led off the stage in handcuffs by the FBI for defrauding a paraplegic, NFL players, ex-wives, etc. A real Republican political wet dream. And a political wet blanket for the Dems, like John Edwards was in 2008 but much more so. Or Fred Thompson in 2008 (until the voters actually met him). For that matter, like Herman Cain in 2012. Both parties are pretty susceptible to schoolgirl crushes that evaporate in the cold light of day.

I think Avenatti might have escaped prosecution entirely were it not for the threat he posed to the 2020 Dem presidential primary. The prosecutors and A.G. seemed otherwise inclined to let him get away with just about anything. Other than run for prez as a Dem. And that is what seems to brought down a full prosecution on him.

He probably hasn't rounded up enough aluminum cans to pay a cheap attorney. Who'd want to defend this asset-seized sleaze?

Wouldn't it be hilarious if CPL ended up with a public defender?

Avenatti tried to get a public defender for the CA fraud case back in April and the judge refused his request, then Avenatti hired some lawyer himself.

CPL is a total bottom-feeder.
