The biggest surprise of the 2016 election was, of course, Donald Trump’s breach of the “blue wall” upon which the Democrats depended to hold back the howling MAGA hordes. It was the fissures in that fabled fortification that brought tears to the eyes of all those Clinton supporters watching dumbfounded as the dreaded “deplorables” invaded their safe electoral spaces. The Democrats have attempted to repair the damaged wall, but it has only weakened further as the unemployed voters who took a chance on Trump have found jobs. They won’t desert him next year, which means the crumbling blue ramparts will completely collapse in 2020.

These voters, many of whom found themselves out of work for the first time in their lives during the Obama years, see the resurgence of the job market since the last election as a promise kept by the president. In states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, unemployment has plummeted. In Pennsylvania, for example, Obama and his Democratic accomplices declared war on coal and drove unemployment to a peak of 8.8 percent. It was still 5.2 percent when President Trump took office. Unemployment is now 3.9 percent. In 2016, the President won Pennsylvania by 44,292 votes, less than 1 percent. He will win by a far larger margin next year.

The story is much the same in Michigan. Trump’s predecessor and the Democrats spent years coddling foreign trade partners like China, allowing the state’s manufacturing jobs to evaporate. Unemployment peaked at an outrageous 14.6 percent, and it was still at 5 percent when President Trump took office and dropped as low as 3.9 percent last summer. It has hovered around 4 percent since. The voters who are now back at work are those “forgotten Americans” whom Trump courted in 2016, much to the amusement of the media. As in Pennsylvania, he won Michigan by well under 1 percent. The margin will not be nearly that small in 2020.

Because Wisconsin had a Republican governor and legislature during the Obama era, it didn’t suffer as badly as Pennsylvania and Michigan. Nonetheless, Trump did motivate a lot of the state’s “forgotten Americans.” This allowed Trump to win in yet another squeaker. And, despite the Badger State’s relatively low unemployment rate, it has nonetheless declined from 3.6 percent to 3 percent. This isn’t likely to turn voters off. Indeed, a recent poll confirms that Trump is more popular in Wisconsin than when he won in the state in 2016. Dan Pfeiffer, a former adviser to erstwhile President Obama, has bad news for the Democrats:
According to our poll, his approval in Wisconsin is 48-51 percent.… Trump’s approval on the economy is even higher.… This has given Republicans a 10-point advantage on the question of which party voters trust to handle the economy and jobs.… Anyone who thinks Trump will be easy to beat in Wisconsin is sorely mistaken, and the path to the White House for a Democrat gets very narrow without Wisconsin.

And the news gets worse. It appears that the labor unions are having difficulty convincing their members to cast their ballots against President Trump. In fact, one of the places they are having the most difficulty is in yet another section of the blue wall that Trump nearly won last time and may well win in 2020. Minnesota has historically been a safe Democratic stronghold, but Trump lost it by a mere 1.5 percent. The Wall Street Journal points out that Trump did better with union members in 2016 than any Republican candidate since Reagan and describes the following conversations with two union officials in Duluth, Minnesota:
Scott Johnson, business manager of Local 210 of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers, said he thinks about 50% of the local supports the president.… Working a few feet away in the same office at the union hall was Ted Lunger, who worked for 15 years as a roofer and is a huge Trump supporter. He said he likes the president’s stands on immigration and the Second Amendment.

If Johnson is right about the number of union members who will vote for Trump in Minnesota, that will probably blow another 10-elector hole in the blue wall. And he plans to aim his campaign’s trebuchet at yet another state he lost by only a few votes. In 2016, he lost New Hampshire by a mere 3,000 votes, and there are indications that some if not all of those ballots were cast by ineligible voters. As the Washington Times reports, “More than 6,500 people registered to vote in New Hampshire on Nov. 8 using out-of-state driver’s licenses, and since then the vast majority have neither obtained an in-state license nor registered a motor vehicle.”

Since then, Republican New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu signed a bill into law meant to make voter fraud more difficult. Trump could well win the Granite State this time, and that will knock another hole in the increasingly unstable ediface. Another state the Trump campaign plans to target is Nevada, which he lost by only two points in 2016. By winning all the states he won in 2016 plus Minnesota, Nevada, and New Hampshire, Trump will win re-election and reduce the fabled blue wall to rubble. Can you see any of Trump’s potential Democratic opponents stopping the wall’s demolition with pie-in the-sky promises while the economy continues to grow and create jobs?

Poster Comment:

A little optimistic. But I liked the current MI/WI/PA numbers and the real chance to pick up MN. The last two paragraphs followup on whether Trump actually won NH in 2016 by voter fraud committed with out-of-state drivers licenses using same-day registration in NH was new to me as was the new NH law to stop that from happening again. It is clear that Dems, probably Massholes, drove in to NH to commit voter fraud and deny Trump those electoral votes. (1 image)

Republicans to scrap primaries and caucuses as Trump challengers cry foul

Four states are poised to cancel their 2020 GOP presidential primaries and caucuses, a move that would cut off oxygen to Donald Trump’s long-shot primary challengers.

Republican parties in South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona and Kansas are expected to finalize the cancellations in meetings this weekend, according to three GOP officials who are familiar with the plans.

The Trumpkins are so afraid of Bill Weld that they're canceling primaries.

Shows just how weak of a candidate Donnell is.

The GOP's love for masshole governors was proven by Mitt in '12. Bill Weld is a clear and present danger to the establishment hack in the WH.

If A K A Stone would vote for Mitt, he'd vote for Bill Weld!

Bill who?

Few Republicans have heard of him. A has-been done-nothing from the Nineties. And a liberal Masshole who has zero in common with GOP voters in any state a Republican might actually win in a national election.

Anyway, the last time we heard of Weld, he was running for VP as the nominee of the Libertarian Party. Well, until he announced that all Libertarians should just vote for Hitlery. Which they didn't do but were quite disgusted at the embarrassment of having allowed yet another GOP political has-been like Weld to be on their national ticket. Barr, Weld, that serial killer Wayne Allyn Root, all GOP pols. And all betrayed the LP by returning to the GOP. Weld distinguished himself with his Hitlery endorsement but now he's back to save the day for the GOP.

It's a joke really. Weld is just an old attention whore whose 15 minutes of fame was up 20 years ago. Now he's just an occasional cable news outlet whore. It's his retirement hobby. He's the GOP's Mike Gravel, the perpetual geezer candidate that no one wants.

As for GOP fear of Weld and Walsh leading them to cancel primaries, state parties quite often cancel caucuses and even primaries. North Dakota has a primary in which only party honchos get to vote. Who cares if it gets cancelled? Colorado has a very limiting set of rules for who gets to participate in the GOP primary and it's mostly hardcore activists and honchos. You may recall Trump bitching about both at length in 2016.

Anyway, the state parties, both Dem & GOP, save themselves a lot of money if they cancel a caucus or especially a primary and just hold a nominating convention. And this is not at all unusual. The states don't hold these partisan primaries for free: the state parties have to pay a lot of money for ballots and hiring the staff and renting the machines and all the advertising with sample ballots and such. An election is free for the parties but primaries cost a lot. And that is more money left for the state parties to spend on their candidates to defeat the other party. It makes a difference and it is a smart play in many states to cancel the primaries and use the money as a campaign warchest instead.

If Trump had major scandals around him, the state parties would feel they had to hold primaries. Otherwise, incumbent presidents always win the primaries even if they fail at re-election.

The state GOP organizations in SC/NV/AZ/KS will cancel their 2020 primaries this weekend. I would be surprised if Virginia doesn't join them. And there will be others especially in battleground states where the state parties pinch every penny. States with a seriously contested Senate primary or governor's race will no doubt still hold primaries.

Actually, I think Trump is more honest. When you read his tweets, you are hearing a pretty unedited version of what Trump is thinking about on an issue at any given time.

Trump's WH is remarkable for its lack of message discipline compared to the managed propaganda regime under 0bama and the Bush presidents and the Xlintons. Reagan was the last president who really communicated what he thought on any given day in the same way that Trump does. But with Trump, it is all stream-of-consciousness tweeting. And it is a little clever in that Trump does intend for it to create controversy and even outrage. This is part of how Trump controls the entire spectrum of debate on an issue. Once you understand this, you see that Trump has a very deliberate strategy for his off-the-cuff remarks and tweets. There is a real method to his madness, so to speak. If there wasn't, he couldn't have overcome the barriers to become president to begin with, no matter how much Hitlery was hated across the country.

Bill Weld????

Calling you a clueless fool is bragging on you.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.

These are all a bunch of very cogent remarks that really get to the marrow of what Trump is doing and the party overall. I had a premonitory dream last night in which I saw part of the election returns in the next election.

I felt sorrowful during it, for some reason, because I saw the map of a bunch of states that were all one color: Michigan, Wisconsin and Florida, all this same color. And as I watched, Minnesota came in to. Obviously one candidate was blowing the other one one out, and given my mood in the dream, I thought it was the Democrat. The key policy that the media was discussing was something about health care choice.

I woke up feeling bad (I had had a similar dream in 1991, right after the Gulf War success when H.W. Bush was running at 92% popularity, and yet there he was, conceding on election night, "the people have spoken", he said in my dream. I woke up disconcerted because it seemed so implausible. Then I watched it happen.)

Had the same weird feeling when I blew up that Soviet base, and then this morning: premonitory dreams, remote visions - not the same as regular dreams.

As I made my way to take my shower I realized that in my dream, as Minnesota clicked into that map with the other states, with Florida and Michigan and Wisconsin, they were all RED. Which would mean, unless they change the color scheme for the next election reporting, Trump will win handily.

There. Now that marker is put down there. Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota - all Trump next time. Pennsylvania was still dark on that map - so that will be a close race.

These are all a bunch of very cogent remarks that really get to the marrow of what Trump is doing and the party overall.

I liked it as a general overview of how incumbent presidents do with a good economy: virtually unbeatable. Only 4 incumbent presidents have lost since 1900 and usually with good reason, most for reasons that Trump wont face.

Your subconscious mind was doing well to focus on MN. If Trump can grab PA/MI/WI, he can grab MN too. It would rip the heart from the Dem northern firewall of northern plains states. As you know, these upper industrial/ag states have, along with Ohio, determined every election in the last 150 years.

As I made my way to take my shower I realized that in my dream, as Minnesota clicked into that map with the other states, with Florida and Michigan and Wisconsin, they were all RED. Which would mean, unless they change the color scheme for the next election reporting, Trump will win handily.

The color scheme won't change back. The gutless GOP failed to fight for our blue color which we had had since I was a kid. It is a subtle advantage as blue is considered moderate and safe and red is dangerous and aggressive to many sectors of the voting population, especially older people. The only time red would be an advantage is if the voters expect and want a government ready to go to a major war. So the Dems stole it from us in the Nineties and have kept it ever since. Believe me, if there was no advantage to Blue, they wouldn't have grabbed it. As you can tell, I still resent it.

I hadn't been familiar with the outcome in NH in the last few paragraphs but it is clear that Masshole Dems stole NH's electoral votes from Trump. Apparently that just isn't news worth reporting when the libmedia can just chant Russia-Russia-Russia for three years while calling Trump a traitor president.

Your dream didn't include NH, did it?     : )

The Northeast was dark in my map. I don't know who won it. Come to think of it, it was a pastiche of Southern states, with Florida, all read, and a swath of Midwestern states - Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota.

Also, Idaho. Idaho was clearly there, red.

Because I was in a dream state, red didn't mean anything. I really thought I was watching Trump get blown out.
