The song, which was written in 1980 by Andrei Kozlovsky and is about a nuclear submarine preparing to bomb America, was sung during a celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day. It went: "On a submarine with a nuclear motor – yes, with a dozen 100-megaton bombs... I called to the gunner: 'Set the target to Washington city'... In the skies is my friend Vovochka... and his hatches aren't empty... I'm sorry, America... Five hundred years ago, you were discovered in vain... Burn in half the land of adversary!" The choir's performance came amidst tensions between Russia and the U.S. surrounding American withdrawal from the INF Treaty after accusing Russia of violating the agreement. This video was uploaded to the Internet on February 25, 2019 and the performance went viral among Russian social media users. Can we be sure that a dozen 100-megaton bombs is enough to get the job done? Of course, Tsar Bomba is the biggest H-bomb ever, tested in 1961. It yielded only around 50 megatons. The bomb was detonated in secret but was detected by US Intelligence agencies. The US apparently had an instrumented KC-135R (Operation SpeedLight[7]) in the area of the test, close enough to have been scorched by the blast. [8][2] The bhangmeter results and other data suggested the bomb yielded about 58 megatons,[9] and that was the accepted yield in the literature until the Soviet scientists revealed that their instruments indicated a yield of 50 megatons in 1991.[2] As they had the instrumental data and access to the test site, their yield figure has been accepted as more correct.[8][2] In theory, the bomb would have had a yield in excess of 100 megatons if it had included a uranium-238 tamper, but because only one bomb was built, that capability has never been demonstrated.
