#5. To: buckeroo (#0) True, Belize has problems … To say that Belize has problems is a gross understatement. The problems in Belize are awesome. UN Report says Belize is the third most dangerous country in the world. As per the U S state department because of the extremely high murder rate Belize was rated the 6th most violent country in the world. The United States State Department issued a travel advisory for Belize warning American citizens to exercise caution when in the country. The advisory states that violent crime, such as sexual assault, armed robbery, and murder are common in Belize and local police lack the resources to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents. There are currently seven major environmental issues, related in one way or another to pollution that impact Belize's natural resources. It’s no secret that Belize City is a cesspool of crime, with gang conflicts and shootings almost daily. It’s Belize City that makes Belize’s homicide rate so high. Dangers in Paradise: What tourists aren't being told. The ABC7 I-Team reports on dangers in paradise and crime threats to tourists following the murder of our ABC7 colleague Anne Swaney three weeks ago. The I- Team traveled to Central America after Anne was killed. Belize Pollution Problems - While the amount of solid waste being generated per capita is low for the region, the inability to properly dispose of the wastes pose another serious environmental threat to Belize that is already causing health issues and land and water pollution What is driving the killings in Belize? “THINKING OF BELIZE? - STAY AWAY”
#6. To: buckeroo (#0) I'd like to check it out at some point. Big attraction for me: English.
#7. To: A K A Stone (#2) It's true that in Latin America, if you are super rich, you don't want anyone to know it. The rules are all different and you can't play things like you can in the USA. Yes there is corruption, but I see that as part of the rules that need to be played. And make no mistake, there is corruption in the USA too. It's just that in the US, the corruption is concentrated in D.C., whereas in less developed countries, the corruption is more evenly distributed through the whole country. I prefer to think of it as placing the "benefit" of corruption within the reach of the common people. Arguably better than the US model where only the corporate elite have access to it. But yes, if you want to and expect to live in a lessor developed country playing by the same rules you live by in the USA, then you might not like the results so much, especially if you are very wealthy. You have to adapt to any new culture, and economy you relocate into. And I'm sure these crime stats are for the large cities. I wouldn't want to live in Chicago, NY, LA, or DC either. Living in smaller places is much safer.
#8. To: Gatlin (#5) I'm sure the government knows best. As usual.
