Was he a good student?
#403. To: Fred Mertz (#402) He was tall... I’ll see what I can do about posting a more current pic, if you really want one. Badeye posted on 2003-03-15 09:26:22 ET Reply Trace #404. To: war (#403) Shy bookkeeper Henry Limpet loves fish with a passion. Rejected by the U.S. Navy and feeling downcast, he falls off a pier into the waters near Coney Island and finds he has turned into a fish. Since he never resurfaces, his wife and friends assume he has drowned. I used to go to Coney Island a number of times in my youth. My grandparents lived near Sheepshead Bay and we'd somehow make our way to Coney Island when visiting. I rode the Cyclone back when it was famous. Is that World's Fair (19??) parachute ride still standing? I don't remember ever riding it, I may have been too young or it may have been too expensive.
#405. To: Fred Mertz (#404) (Edited) It is still standing. It was an eyesore for years and they were going to take it down but Trump stepped in and fixed it and painted it. Well I guess that Trump did not step in...here's the Wiki entry on it... I’ll see what I can do about posting a more current pic, if you really want one. To: war (#405) (Edited) Thanks for the Wiki link...I just perused it. 1939 World's Fair...somewhere I have a 1939 key ring that either my granny or grandpa gave me knowing that I was a young packrat and would hold on to it. Hey, I just found it! It's nothing fancy and I still have keys on it.
#408. To: Fred Mertz (#407) I just found something old too...maybe me talking about my Uncle Punk brought some good karma out... When we moved Mom up to Michigan back in 2001, she gave me her mother's silver which I brought up here and then promptly "lost". It just turned up this AM. Uncle Punk was Grandma's baby brother... To: war (#408) I've got a few pieces of family silver that were handed down to me. Not silverware but a pitcher and a sugar and milk/cream containers. I just took a gander at them and they need some serious cleaning. No wonder silver is no longer a popular item, at least from what I've seen.
#410. To: war (#408) While I was reminiscing I googled on the few sets of Topps complete sets of baseball cards I purchased about twenty years ago. I think I paid more for them then than they are worth now. Bummer...
#411. To: war (#408) Live odds on the Derby Future Wager: www.kentuckyderby.com/future-wager/odds About seven of the horses on the list are running this weekend. I think I'll run my money up to the track on Sunday. I think I'll blow off All Others and go for luck and value on about 3 or 4 of them.
#412. To: Fred Mertz (#410) (Edited) I started buying Topps complete sets when my oldest was born in 1981 [1982 was first set] and continued to do so until he was about 13. I had a coworker in the late 80's who had a sports memorabilia store and he told me about a new company, Upper Deck, and I bought him a few sets of those as well. He sold some of them a few years ago when he and his wife bought their house and he was able to buy some furniture. But 99% of the cards were crap. IIRC, and I'll call him later to ask, one of the years had a quirk to it; someone did something bad in the background or something, and he had that card and got some decent coin for it. I’ll see what I can do about posting a more current pic, if you really want one. Badeye posted on 2003-03-15 09:26:22 ET Reply Trace #413. To: Fred Mertz (#411) Well...was I as fucking wrong as wrong can be...he sold all the sets [there were 20 he said] to one guy and got about $300 bucks [he thinks] and the card I thought he had he didn't.... To: war (#413) I included your horse as one of my Derby Future Wager picks. Last live odds I saw he was 51-1. My Louisville Cards pulled a major upset vs Syracuse this afternoon. Life is sweet.
#415. To: war (#413) (Edited)
I think these are the final odds from the link I posted above. $2 gets $110, $20 gets $1,100 ... and so forth. I like your trainer, Michael Maker.
#416. To: Fred Mertz (#415) M&M? KEwel... I’ll see what I can do about posting a more current pic, if you really want one. Badeye posted on 2003-03-15 09:26:22 ET Reply Trace #417. To: war (#416) M&M? One of my dad's friends from his youth and through life came up with that famous slogan, they melt in your mouth and not in your hand.
#418. To: war (#412) (Edited) I started buying Topps complete sets when my oldest was born in 1981 [1982 was first set] and continued to do so until he was about 13. I can't remember where I bought them, but buying was a frenzy during that period. It would be like me going out and buying an ounce of gold for $1100 now.
#419. To: Fred Mertz (#418) The kind of changed the rules of the game, I guess. I thought it was a long shot as an investment for him anyway... #430. To: Fred Mertz (#429) (Edited) Given her stated heritage was it an Irish war song? "Take MY Guinness and I'll Give Yea A Haircut"? I told them I've seen this 'sport' for about 40 years and I still have no idea what the rules are and how the scoring works. It was fun to watch anyway. US lost by 1 point and they got out this high tech gadget to score who was closest to the bulls eye at the end; Japan was.
#433. To: war (#430) Given her stated heritage was it an Irish war song? I couldn't figure out what it was.

#436. To: Fred Mertz (#435) My parodies were 1000000 times better... A few months back I posted some of my original REAL song lyrics to Mudge and his response was hilarious... #438. To: Fred Mertz (#437) I still play but Jr takes it to another level. His Wind Cries Mary is not only note for note and then some but the tone and feel is DOB. #442. To: Fred Mertz (#441) (Edited) Yea...I have a Joan Jett story that's a little complicated and it involves a roommate who moved out in the middle of the night after I kicked his ass for stealing from me but she is a very interesting person to say the least. She's 100% bull dyke now...in the late 80's she was not. Hey...I won 3 lunches for betting against the US men's curling team!!! The fact I was an RM2 escapes you obviously, and what that implies.
