The Water Cooler Title: Arizona father beats, kills man who followed his daughter into bathroom stall, police say An Arizona father decided to “take care of a situation” his own way when he killed a man who attempted to enter a bathroom stall his daughter was in, police said. Melvin Harris III, 40, faces a second-degree murder charge in the beating death of Leon Leevon Armstrong, AZFamily.com reported. Harris was taken into custody earlier this month after the deadly encounter at a QuikTrip convenience store in Phoenix involving his 16-year-old daughter. Harris was waiting in the parking lot to pick up his daughter and two friends when Armstrong approached him asking for money. Harris gave him some change and Armstrong went into the store. Harris’ daughter came out of the store and told her father that a man tried to enter her bathroom stall by violently shaking the door, police said. She said she told the employees who alerted the security guard. She then identified Armstrong as the alleged harasser when she spotted him walking out of the store. Possibly thinking not enough was being done, Harris approached the security guard and told him to “take care of the situation, or he would do it himself.” The guard said the incident was being handled. The protective father, however, confronted Armstrong about the incident and then attacked him, authorities said. Witnesses told police Harris repeatedly stomped, punched and kicked the man. Harris fled the scene. Armstrong was taken to the hospital where he later died. He suffered brain swelling, a nasal fracture and loss of oxygen. Harris was arrested at his home. He later admitted he struck Armstrong in the face, but claims he didn’t throw the first punch, the report stated. He also denied hitting Armstrong when he was on the ground. Harris’ fiancee, Diana Jackson, told AZFamily.com that Harris was protecting his daughter. "I'm not mad at him. I don't feel like he did anything wrong. I love him. He did what he was supposed to do for our kid. You cannot tell someone they're wrong for protecting their children," Jackson told the station. "I would have done the same thing. I don't feel bad at all for his actions. I feel bad that the man ended up dying in the process. I do.” Jackson said it’s unfair her fiancé is being treated as a criminal for protecting his child. Armstrong reportedly also had a criminal history that included shoplifting, trespassing and obstructing justice. #2. To: All (#0) (Edited) When I first read the story, I said to myself, "Way to go dad!" Then I thought about it. This happened at a QuikTrip convenience store. My experience at these convenience stores is that they usually have one unisex bathroom inside with one toilet. You enter and lock the door, and the next person has to wait outside the door in the store. Is it possible that Armstrong simply tried the door and finding that it was locked, walked away? The teen inside overreacted, thinking that he was trying to break in, and told her dad. Who also overreacted. If Armstrong had ill intent and followed her into a regular bathroom with stalls, why not simply wait until she was done and unlocked the stall door?

When my daughter, my first born, was still in a stroller. My wife & I had gone to a mall. We were at a womens clothing store. One of those corner dealsright at an intersection, open on both sides. My wife was actually in the store, I had the stroller at the opening. A woman who I thought worked there, dressed very well. She came up and knelt down, bragging about how beautiful my daughter was, talking about how she wanted the "girls" in the back to see her. Then she said " I'll take her back there, I won't be long " I just politely but firmly said NO ! She then reached for and started to lift her out of the stroller. I pulled it back and told her " Lady you take your hands off of her, or I will splatter your brains all over the place. " I had a Colt 1911 under my jacket. The woman's eyes got very big, stood up, and walked out the other opening, down the hall and disappeared. I found an off duty Cop in uniform, and told him about it. He thanked me and said he would look for her. Would I have shot her? Most likely I would have just broke her arms. There had recently been some stories in the paper about people kidnapping little kids, so I was a bit paranoid. But I was not going to take any chances with my little girl's life. Yeah, some of the most embarrassing moments of my life were when I had to take my toddler daughter into the men's restroom to let her do her business. That was better than taking chances, though.
