Title: Trump Goes Full Neocon as Bolton Adds Fred Fleitz as NSC Chief of Staff

During the Trump campaign, I wrote a book on the influence of Frank Gaffney, the fringe neocon who has made a career pulling fire alarms, telling us Islam will destroy western civilization and enslave us to Sharia law.

Earlier this week Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton installed Fred Fleitz as the National Security Council’s executive secretary and chief of staff. Fleitz worked for Bolton at the State Department during the Bush administration. He is a senior staff member at the Center for Security Policy (CPS), a hardline neocon think tank founded by Gaffney. Its raison d’etre is taking out the mullahs in Iran, who are invariably described as “Islamofascists,” and unflattering support for the Israeli Likudnik ethnic cleansers.

According to Gaffney, the only solution to longstanding diplomatic issues between Iran and the US is to bomb the hell out of Iran.

Fleitz is a former CIA analyst. He is the former managing editor of LIGNET.com (Langley Intelligence Group Network), a project of the neocon-friendly Newsmax Media group. Advisors to LIGNET included several high-profile neocons, including John Bolton, former Ambassador Otto Reich, and former CIA Director Michael Hayden.

Fleitz is known for telling outrageous fictions, including the accusation Syria may transfer nuclear weapons-related material to Iran or terrorist groups. Mr. Fleitz seems to have forgotten that Syria never had a nuclear weapons program. His 2006 report on Iran’s imaginary nuclear threat was severely condemned by the International Atomic Energy Agency for its “erroneous, misleading, and unsubstantiated information.”

“The fact that Frederick Fleitz, a former CIA officer, was apparently the report’s main author suggests that his effort to undermine confidence in the intelligence community’s estimates regarding Iran is part of a larger campaign that includes many of the same hawks who led the drive to war in Iraq,” writes Jim Lobe. “In addition to working for [Rep. Peter] Hoekstra, a staunch [Bush] administration loyalist, Fleitz served as John Bolton’s special assistant during Bush’s first term. Bolton, then undersecretary of state for international security and arms control, worked particularly closely with neoconservatives in [Dick] Cheney‘s office and the Pentagon to undermine efforts by his nominal boss at the time, Secretary of State Colin Powell, to engage Iran, North Korea, and Syria on a range of issues.”

Fleitz’s report, “Recognizing Iran as a Strategic Threat: An Intelligence Challenge for the United States,” condemns the intelligence community for not backing up his baseless assertions about Iran, including the accusation it worked with al-Qaeda.

The Fleitz appointment underscores the full neocon-ization of the Trump administration and heightens the probability of war with Iran and North Korea.

While there is not yet a full house of neocons in the Trump administration, they are working on it, as this latest appointment demonstrates.

With Mike Pompeo now running the State Department, a Frank Gaffney radical as chief of staff of the NSC, Bolton as special adviser, and Nikki Haley barking and telling lies at the United Nations, we can expect this administration to be worse for sanity and peace than the Bush administration.

Hello, Iran? Did you get our message we left you?

Mr. Fleitz seems to have forgotten that Syria never had a nuclear weapons program.

The writer seems to have never noticed that Israel destroyed the Syrian nuke program in a major 2007 raid. How uninformed can any writer be not to know of it? If he doesn't know about that, what else in this lame article is just pure fiction or lies or ignorance?

Israel destroyed the Syrian reactor and the factory of equipment around it that was to be used for nuclear weapons production. It was a bomb-factory-in-a-box, designed and mostly supplied by North Korea, mostlyu transshipped via Iran to Syria.

Spiegel: Evidence Points to Syrian Push for Nuclear Weapons, 2015

Evidence is mounting of continued NorK scientists helping build deep bunkers for nuke labs in Syria. It seems the Syrian program did not end with Israel's raid as so many thought.

Everyone believed that Israel's attack had finished off the Syrian reactor facility because Syria did not rebuild at that location, merely cleaned it up as much as they could when IAEA came snooping for evidence of nuclear research.

The level of ignorance by this writer is only exceeded by the unfounded vitriol toward "neocons", which Bolton and his crew are not a part of and never were a part of. They do agree with neocons sometimes but do not have the reckless neocon outlook that led to disasters like the Arab Spring.

Bolton's guys are hawks and, in policy, realists (in the sense that we would see guys like Kissinger as realist policy experts). And foreign policy realists are not neocons.

Israel did declassify their footage of the 2007 attack on the reactor and admitted they destroyed it officially. You can see footage and get some info about the warplanes they used in the attack.

Which is why Assad must be overthrown and the regime completely destroyed. It is not GOOD ENOUGH to simply defeat ISIS.

Syria has no right to be working on nuclear weapons. If they are going to do it, their government needs to be overthrown as many times as necessary, with as much bloodshed among Syrian politicians as necessary, until they submit to the reality that they not only never will have nuclear weapons, but do not have the right to TRY.

No Syrian regime that keeps at it should be permitted to exist.

A precondition of being allowed to continue to breath air, as a Syrian President, must be clearly understood to be that you are not seeking to obtain nuclear weapons in secret. If you are, you need to be fertilizer, and your successor needs to understand. If he won't, then he needs to be fertilizer and another successor found, until a man who does not want to die for a fantasy accepts that Syria never will be allowed to research nuclear weapons. Never. And that secret research alone is justification for, and will trigger, an overthrow of of the government by the United State.

Castro was allowed to live out his days as dictator of Cuba, and his brother is still on the Cuban throne. The PRICE of that was no nukes in Cuba. Had Castro doubled down the Kruschchev been a stubborn fool, we would have invaded the island and killed Castro, and fought and won a nuclear war with the USSR in 1962, if the Soviets then decided to actually fight.

The price of life for Castro was no nukes. So too should be the price for the independence of Syria.

A secret nuclear weapons program in Syria is cause for American overthrow of the government, not to mention Israeli.

We have a lot of intel about the main NorK scientist apparently continuing to work with the main Syrian scientist, that there is a secret facility deep underground, that Syria does have enough uranium to enrich and produce 3-5 bombs, maybe more.

It seems to me that we need a little more evidence to hit this new so-called Zamzam site. But it looks very very suspicious. I tend to think that Syria cannot have made much progress due to the civil war but that will end soon.

I assume we have more evidence than we let on.

We should not be hitting the site. We should be hitting the Syrian Presidential Palace for having the site.

It is the easy solution but decapitating a regime isn't that good of an idea really.

You may have noticed that we didn't drop our atom bombs on Tokyo. It was debated and roundly rejected. You have to have someone left to surrender and sign the peace treaty for the conquered nation.

Japan was a MONARCHY, with the mystical ties between a monarch and his people, overlapping ones that go back generations, with the whole social order built around hereditary lines of allegiance. You trap the King, you don't kill him, not even in Chess.

A dictator is not a king. The social structure in a republic is not a monarchy. Republics are changeful things, and people do not have generational loyalties.

Germany surrendered in May, 1945. If Germany was still the field then the first bombs would have fallen there. Berlin would not have been spared.

I never have believed we would have nuked the Germans unless they posed a dire threat to Britain's home islands or the States.

In part, this is because there have never been planning documents released sketching out any kind of A-bomb use on Germany. It seems they only ever planned to use them in Japan.

Also, nuking white people in Germany would have sent a bad signal to the USSR who would know our intent toward them. So, better to just bomb the yellow people instead.

That could be. But there wouldn't be any planning documents about the bomb in April 1945, because the first successful bomb test was months away.

Yes, that sneaky nuclear weasel Bibi probably will need nuking, and the sooner the better. He's not fooling anyone but the Israel firsters anyway.

The norks, Syria and Iran are very wise to want nukes, considering the liars that are threatening them.

Nope. Israel is a different case: an ally that needs to defend itself. Syria is an enemy that doesn't have the right to defend itself with nuclear weapons.
