Enterprise Dumps NRA Discounts, But Donates to Groups That Support Planned Parenthood, Abortion

By Michael W. Chapman | February 28, 2018 | 1:41 PM EST

(CNSNews.com) -- Enterprise Holdings, the parent company of car rental firms Enterprise, Alamo, and National, decided to end its discount program for NRA members following the horrific shooting at the public school in Parkland, Fla. The company's charitable division, Enterprise Holdings Foundation, however, shows in its publicly available IRS filings that it donates thousands of dollars to groups that, in turn, either support abortion or send grants to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States.

Enterprise, Alamo, and National car rental operated a discount partnership with the NRA, which allowed NRA members to get discounts on car rentals, use a self-service check-in, and quickly obtain a rental car to drive away. Following the terrible shooting in Parkland on Feb. 14 in which 17 people were killed, Enterprise Holdings changed its policy. (Twitter.)

The company did not issue a statement but instead, in response to a query on Twitter said, through its Enterprise RentACar account on Feb. 22, "Thank you for contacting us! All three of our brands [Enterprise, Alamo, National] have ended the discount for NRA members. This change will be effective March 26. Thank you again for reaching out."

The actions by Enterprise Holdings were applauded by gun-control advocates, lawmakers, and supporters in the establishment media. Los Angeles Times writer Michael Hiltzik, for instance, in a piece headlined "In Praise of Those Anti-NRA Boycotts," cheered the "social unacceptability of association with the NRA" and stressed how the anti-NRA boycott "must sting." The latest IRS 990 form (from 2015) for Enterprise's charity work, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, reveals that the company has no reservations in donating to organizations that either support abortion or provide grants themselves to Planned Parenthood, a group that kills more than 300,000 U.S. babies every year.

The 990 form lists all the "grants and contributions" made by the Enterprise Holdings Foundation for August 1, 2015 through July 31, 2016. Enterprise donated to dozens of organizations across the country. Among those organizations was the Susan G. Komen group, which is dedicated to fighting breast cancer. However, Komen itself donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to Planned Parenthood every year.

Komen claims that its grants to Planned Parenthood are for "breast cancer screening and outreach programs" and that it does not fund abortion. However, money is fungible. For instance, if in its budget Planned Parenthood had $100 allocated to do "breast cancer screening," and then Komen donated $100 to "breast cancer screening," it would free up $100 in Planned Parenthood's budget, which could be spent elsewhere. The same principle applies to Enterprise's donations to Komen: The grants supposedly are to help fight breast cancer but whatever is donated is fungible, it frees up other funds in the budget that can be sent elsewhere, such as to Planned Parenthood.

In 2015, the Susan G. Komen group annoucned that it had donated $465,000 to 11 Planned Parenthood centers. In 2011, Planned Parenthood said it received about $680,000 in Komen grants. In its 2015 990 IRS form, the Komen group gave numerous grants to Planned Parenthood offices around the country -- for example, Planned Parenthood of Orange and SB County, an $87, 614 grant; Planned Parenthood in Sacramento, Ca., a $46, 537 grant; Planned Parenthood in Denver, $39, 640.

Further, despite Komen's position that it funds Planned Parenthood for "breast cancer screening," the abortion provider does not do mammograms. It can refer patients to facilities where mammograms are performed. (Screenshot: YouTube)

CNSNews.com asked Enterprise Holdings several times by email and Twitter if, given its break with the NRA, it planned to sever its funding of Komen, which financially supports Planned Parenthood.

Enterprise Holdings did not respond.

In addition to the grants it gives to Komen, the Enterprise Holdings Foundation also gives money to Girls Inc.

Girls Inc. states that its mission is to inspire "all girls to be strong, smart, and bold." It further states, "The network of local Girls Inc. nonprofit organizations serves girls ages 6-18 at more than 1,400 sites in 400 cities across the United States and Canada. Our research-based programming is delivered by trained professionals who focus on the development of the whole girl, supporting, mentoring, and guiding girls in an affirming, pro-girl environment. Here, girls learn to value their whole selves, discover and develop their inherent strengths, and receive the support they need to navigate the challenges they face." Grants from Enterprise Holdings Foundation to Girls Inc., which advocates to "Advance Reproductive Justice." (Source: IRS 990 Form, 2015-16)

Girls Inc. does not now state on its website its position on abortion. However it does say that it advocates to "Advance Reproductive Justice." Under this heading, Girls Inc. further states, "In order for girls and young women to make informed decisions about their bodies and health, Girls Inc. advocates for comprehensive, medically accurate, non-shaming, and LGBT-inclusive sexuality education, as well as access to quality, affordable reproductive health care for all girls and women."

Back in 2014, LifeNews.com reported that Girls Inc. posted an FAQ page with the heading, "What is Girls Inc.'s view on reproductive freedom." The non-profit group stated:

"Restrictions of reproductive choice are especially burdensome for young women and poor women. Girls Incorporated supports a woman’s freedom of choice, a constitutional right established by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973 in Roe vs. Wade."

(Screenshot of Girls Inc. webpage.)

Douglas Scott, president of Life Decisions International, told LifeNews.com, “Actually, Girls Inc. is a nonprofit that indoctrinates girls so they become pro-abortion advocates. Considering its philosophy, one could reasonably predict that many of these ‘strong, smart, and bold’ girls will eventually end up lying on a table in front of an abortionist. And Girls Inc., along with the corporations that support it, will be largely responsible.” [Emphasis added.]

A hyperlink at "mygirscouts.com," for the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council, reads "www.girlsinc.org/downloads/adovcacy_statement.pdf (page 9) Girls Inc. position on abortion: 'Girls Incorporation supports freedom of choice, a right recognized by the US Supreme Court in 1973 in Rose [sic.] vs. Wade.'" (Screenshot: YouTube)

When you click on the link, however, it goes to a Girls Inc. "advocacy statement" webpage that says, "We're sorry, but the page you're looking for cannot be found." (https://girlsinc.org/downloads/adovcacy_statement.pdf)

CNSNews.com asked several Girls Inc. officials by email to answer whether its reported support for abortion was true. Girls Inc. did not respond.

CNSNews.com also asked Enterprise Holdings if, given its break with the NRA, it would stop sending grants to Girls Inc.

Enterprise Holdings did not respond.
