A Florida sheriff’s officer who did “nothing” during the Parkland school shooting last week has resigned in disgrace, officials said Thursday.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School resource officer Scot Petersen was armed, in uniform and “clearly” knew there was an active shooter but did “nothing” to intervene, according to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.

Security footage shows Petersen “arrive at the west side of building 12, take up a position and he never went in,” according to Israel, who said the revelations made him “sick to [his] stomach.”

Israel said Petersen should have “Went in, address the killer, kill the killer.”

“After seeing video, witness statements and Scot Petersen’s very own statement, I decided this morning to suspend Scot Petersen without pay, pending an internal investigation,” Israel said. “As is his right, Scot Petersen chose to resign.

“The investigation will continue.”

The Sheriff said he likely won’t release the footage unless it is subpoenaed as part of the criminal case against alleged shooter Nikolas Cruz.

Two other deputies are facing investigation, Israel said.

“I’ve restricted two of our deputies as we dig deeper into this, take statements and make a decision to see whether or not they could have done more, should’ve done more,” he said.

Accused mass-murderer Cruz killed 17 people and injured 15 more when he opened fire on the school with an assault rifle on Valentine’s Day.

Come on Parsons - give us your big rah-rah cops speech and tell us all how all cops are brave "heroes".

No, Deckard, all cops are not “heroes.” They are first and foremost human beings and human beings will react differently to various situations for a multitude of reasons. And most will follow procedures drilled into them by repetitive training.

I can never tell you why Deputy Scot Ralph Peterson did or didn’t do something. But in reading the news reports I recalled an incident that happened in 1953 at Camp Truscott in Salzburg, Austria which I will share with you.

But I want to first explain how I came to be there.

I was fortunate enough to be assigned to a 60-man radar early warning detachment in Austria at the foothills of the alps for two and a half years from 1953 to 1955. We were the only US Air Force unit in Austria and supported logistically by the US Army in Austria. As a 19-year-old 3-stripper crew chief in charge of 20 men, I was attended a number of Army schools including the Seventh Army NCO Academy in Munich (the Army had no NCO Academy in Austria) and the Chemical Biological and Radiological (CBR) School in Salzburg.

The CBR School was an extensive 2-week in depth training course. It was run by an Army Major, a veteran of WWII returned to Austria for a tour of duty. I was the only AF person in the class. One morning was spent on the range throwing all sorts of hand grenades. To throw the grenades and for span of control, the men were lined up three abreast with a respectable distance in between and the Major was on the end of the line to call out the commands to throw. During the rotations, I was at one time in the middle of the 3 when we were throwing the WP grenade. I forget who was on my right, but I will never forget there was an Army Master Sergeant, also a veteran of WWII, on my left. The commands were given and the grenades where thrown....well, except for the Master Sergeant who froze and held the live grenade in his hand. The Major took about 3 giant steps, grabbed the grenade for his hand an threw it down range. The Major obviously anticipated this could happen, or had seen it happen before, and was fully prepared to react. Fortunately for me and some others, he did. The major never said a word to the Master Sergeant, he immediately called the next three men to the line.

I point out this personal incident to show that regardless how well trained any individual may be, or any past actual experiences any individual may have had....something can always “snap” happen for reasons unknown.

I have read that Peterson arrived at the building 2 minutes after the shooting started. He stopped, called for help and took a position. I don’t know what the BCSD written protocol is for arriving at a shooting in progress, but I would not be surprised to learn that he followed procedures that had been drilled into his head for years. Everyone knows now that he should have entered the building.

But I think that Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel has lots of explaining to do for his past inactions involving Cruz and while now everyone thinks that Peterson should have thought “to Hell with protocol” and changed in....Israel throwing Petersen under the bus served no purpose, except maybe give Israel a temporary scapegoat to hide behind.

Referring back to my Post #9....I have a question for you.

I imagine that procedures are pretty standard between LE agencies for certain situations.

What would be the “normal” protocol for an officer arriving at the door of a building with active shooting going on inside the building?

Would it be:

  • To immediately grab open the door and go charging in?
  • Stop, call in and try to assess the situation before taking action?
  • Or what?

Hindsight, we all know now what Petersen should have done.

I am interested in possibly learning what he had been trained for many years to do.

What would be the “normal” protocol for an officer arriving at the door of a building with active shooting going on inside the building?

Prior to Columbine, active gunman incidents were handled by arriving officers contained the incident AND WAITED FOR SWAT. This was standard for many years prior. As you know, that strategy caused quite a lot of bad public relations, after Columbine.

After Columbine, the standard training was that arriving officers wait until at least 4 officers are on scene, then the form a diamond formation, and SEEK AND DESTROY.

That training a few years later was changed to arriving officers, even if it's just ONE officer, upon arrival, IF THERE IS ACTIVE SHOOTING TAKING PLACE, enter the building with only one objective, seek out the active shooter(s), and destroy.

The school resource officer in Florida was a veteran police officer that had enough time in to retire. It's quite common to see this type of officer placed in a school because the younger cops would rather arrest, write tickets and fight with scumbags. This veteran officer most likely, at his stage of career, probably didn't want to risk his life, and ENGAGE the shooter.

He should be charged with official misconduct and or sued if it can be proved he could have saved one life, had he engaged immediately.

He could of ended his career a hero. Even if he died. It's a rare opportunity for anyone... but he was a WEAK PUSSY.

It would be fitting that he hang himself in his attic, at the first chance his family leaves him alone in his home. If he leaves a note, it helps the family find him before the smell gives his deed away.

Apparently there were at least three badged "heroes" who cowered in fear outside the school as the massacre unfolded.

3 Broward County Police Officers Made No Attempt to Enter the School and Stop Nikolas Cruz

Scot Peterson, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school resource officer who declined to confront alleged mass killer Nikolas Cruz in the midst of his attack, wasn't alone in remaining safely away from the massacre: three Broward County sheriff's deputies waited outside the school as well.

When Coral Springs police officers arrived on scene, they discovered several officers who "had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles...and not one of them had gone into the school," according to a CNN report that described the Coral Springs officers as "stunned and upset" to discover that no one else in law enforcement had dared to take on the shooter.

This news isn't exactly surprising, given that we already knew Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel had suspended two other officers—in addition to Peterson, who has resigned—for their conduct during the mass shooting. Perhaps Israel is not directly responsible for his officer's behavior, though there are other questions he should answer about Broward County's myriad failures in preventing the massacre.

Stoneman Douglas. Broward County. Florida's Department of Families and Children. The FBI. Where does this story of unfathomable government incompetence end?

Video has the shooter walk in the east door, first floor, walk into 3 class rooms and kill 16 people. Then he walked up the west steps to second floor, entered one classroom and killed one specific person. Then he walk up the east stairs to the third floor, laid down his rifle, and walked out of the school as one of the victims.

I'll submit to you that given average response times, this shooter probably already had all 17 dead and surrendered his rifle before ANY officer arrived. IMHO, the only officer that had a chance to ventilate this piece of shits chest cavity, was the pussy resource officer.

However that doesn't mean that the first 3 officers that arrived weren't chicken shits themselves. There is a possibility that once they arrived, the shooting had stopped. Most active gunman training teaches that first responding officers only seek and destroy, if there is active gunfire.

We don't have the specific facts... the only cop that WE KNOW was on scene during gunfire was the resource officer.

So shut you cop hating banana bunker.
