Here it is - This will begin the move toward "Medicare for All"
Comrade 45 lies a lot, but he did promise Universal Health Care...
"...When he was a presidential candidate in 2015, Trump told CBS's Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes that "everybody's got to be covered." He conceded that it may be an "un-Republican" thing to say, but he wanted to ensure that everyone had quality health care..." Why do you assume, "... by the federal government"? There's no need to turn the entire health care system upside down to address the needs of the 10% who are uninsured. And how many of those uninsured want to pay for health insurance?
#6. To: misterwhite (#5) Everybody's got to be covered ... how?
Yes, everyone must be covered.
How? A little less than half of the entire population is already covered by a plan that is paid for by tax dollars. (Federal, State, County, Municipal, military, Medicare and Medicaid.)
The other half (all of us working people) are already paying for the other half and ourselves!
Simply enroll everyone in Medicare and stop paying for private insurance. Any person of normal intelligence can understand that the cost would be far lower without including the overhead and profits of the insurance industry and big Pharma.
Why the Federal Government? Because medical care for profit has been a gigantic failure.
Healthcare is an imperfect market. It does not behave according to free- market models. Americans access healthcare when necessary - not because they wish to.
There's no need to turn the entire health care system upside down to address the needs of the 10% who are uninsured.
It's not the 10% uninsured - It is the 48% who are already paying for 90%
#24. To: Jameson (#6) Imagine if we ran car insurance the way we run health insurance. The industry would be out of business in a year. But, it gives us the health insurance solution -- no care unless you can pay. Which is the way it used to be prior to the enactment of EMTALA in 1986 -- after which hospitals started losing money.

EMTALA is a wonderful concept, however it falls into the category of "unfunded mandates" (the reagan legacy lives on)
Imagine if we ran car insurance the way we run health insurance. The industry would be out of business in a year.
The two cannot be compared - healthcare is a basic human right and should be treated as such.
Especially in the richest nation on earth.
#27. To: Jameson (#25) healthcare is a basic human right and should be treated as such. No true human "right" depends on another to fulfill it.
