A tearful Weiner told U.S. District Judge Denise Cote that “the crime I committed is my rock bottom.” He was ordered to surrender to prison on November 6. “I was a very sick man for a long period of time, but I am also responsible for the damage I have done,” he said. “I have no excuse.” Weiner pleaded guilty in May to one count of transmitting obscene material to a high-school girl in North Carolina. An FBI investigation into Weiner’s sexually explicit messages turned up emails that had been sent to his wife, Huma Abedin, then a top aide to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. That prompted the FBI to reopen its investigation into Clinton’s use of private email server while serving as Secretary of State. “This is a serious crime that deserves serious punishment,” Cote said as she handed down the sentence. “She was a minor. She was a victim. She is entitled to the law’s full protection. Joon Kim, the acting U.S. attorney in Manhattan, said, “Anthony Weiner, a former Congressman and candidate for mayor, asked a girl who he knew to be 15 years old to display her naked body and engage in sexually explicit behavior for him online. Justice demands that this type of conduct be prosecuted and punished with time in prison.” Weiner, who faced as long as 10 years, had asked Cote to sentence him to probation. His lawyers said in court papers that the crime was a result of "an uncontrolled sickness" and the "profit-seeking curiosity" of the high-school girl, who contacted him in hopes of generating material for a book she is currently shopping to publishers. He said he hoped to avoid prison to continue with treatment and to help raise his five-year-old son. Prosecutors asked for a prison term of 21 months to 27 months, which they had agreed to as part of a plea deal with Weiner. Weiner must register as a sex offender and will forfeit his iPhone. As part of the government’s investigation of Weiner’s messages to the girl, FBI agents seized his laptop computer, which had Clinton’s emails to Abedin. On Oct. 28, 2016, FBI Director James Comey told Congress that the agents were reviewing the emails to determine whether they were relevant to the separate investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server, throwing the election campaign into turmoil. Two days before the election, Comey told Congress Clinton wouldn’t face any charges relating to the emails. In her book on the election, Clinton blames Comey, in part, for her loss to Donald Trump. The former Secretary of State also detailed in “What Happened” Abedin’s reaction on hearing the news. "When we heard this, Huma looked stricken," Clinton wrote. "Anthony had already caused so much heartache. And now this." "‘This man is going to be the death of me,’ she said, bursting into tears." Abedin, who is divorcing Weiner, wrote one of about 45 letters submitted to the sentencing judge, from politicians, family and other sex addicts, in support of his bid for leniency. Weiner, 53, began his political career as an aide to then-U.S. Representative Chuck Schumer, a Democrat who is now a Senator from New York. Weiner won a seat on the New York City Council in 1991 at 27, and was elected to Schumer’s former House seat in 1998. Weiner was re-elected six times but was forced to resign in 2011 after admitting to “inappropriate conversations” with six women during three years, including on Facebook, email, Twitter and on the phone. In 2005, he made an unsuccessful run for mayor of New York and tried again in 2013. That bid was ruined when news broke that Weiner, using the alias "Carlos Danger," had sent explicit pictures to an Indiana woman. She really is not a victim of any kind IMO. Not that I'm sorry to see Carlos Danger go to prison. He was guilty of many many crimes over the years and deserves it, much as OJ Simpson wasn't especially guilty in the memorabilia scam that he was convicted for but there was some justice for his victims when he went to prison too.
BTW, that little sow should be charged with child pornography as well.

Now, now. On the contrary. She deserves the Medal of Freedom -- she single- handedly put Weiner in prison AND the subsequent investigation led to the defeat of Hillary in the 2016 election.
Maybe we can get Bill to present it to her, alone, in the Oval Office.

She arguably did manage to do what Monica Lewinsky, Linda Tripp, Ken Starr, the Vast Ring Conspiracy and RimJob at FreeRepublic could not: keep a Xlinton out of the White House. And she wasn't even really trying.
Give her the medal. In prison. It's a win-win.

I'm claiming the typical 15 year old lacks the judgement to make rational decisions about things like this,but men in their 50's are expected to know better due to their life experiences.

No.
Sadly,I worked with a guy in Denver that was on a work-release program from the Colorado State Prison for that very "crime". The difference was in his case he was 18,and his girlfriend was 17 when he was caught having sex with her on her living room couch. Her father was prominent,and he insisted on pressing charges of statutory rape,and got his wish.
IMHO,the DA that accepted this travesty of justice as well as the judge that handed down the sentence were both guilty of a greater crime than he was.
The FACT is that girls mature quicker than boys. Don't blame me,blame nature. The typical 15 year old girl is as aware,or more,of the realities of life than the typical 20 year old boy/young man.
This is NOT the case when the girl is 15 and the male is 53,though.

He'd request protective custody and he would get it in a real prison. He'd be lonely but probably not sexually abused. He's a made man politically and he'll be protected. The last thing they want is for him to come out of prison telling tales of how he was gangraped and no one did anything to help him. So they'll segregate him.
Most likely, it's a Club Fed for him. He'll likely go to Cumberland in Maryland since he got far less than 10 years and was not convicted of a violent crime.

But with celebrity convicts in the news, like “Real Housewife” Teresa Giudice (she began her 15-month sentence Monday) and former Virginia governor Bob McDonnell, whose sentencing is Tuesday, there is renewed interest in what life is really like on the inside. “It’s kind of like a junior college setting,” explained Larry Levine, director and founder of Wall Street Prison Consultants, which advises clients before going into lock-up. “I don’t want to call it a stress-free environment, but it’s a lot of hanging out with the other inmates, you know, just bull—-ing.” Levine, who served 10 years in federal prison for racketeering, among other charges, said that a typical day at a low-security prison camp starts with wake-up call a 6 a.m., a mad dash to the overcrowded bathrooms (“You never want to be the last guy in the shower stall–ever”), breakfast at 7:15 a.m., work duty, lunch, more work, a head count at 4 p.m., mail call, dinner an hour later, free time, another head count, then lights out at around 11 p.m. It’s not girl scout camp, but it’s not HBO’s jailhouse drama “Oz” either. “It’s like a boring Groundhog Day,” Levine said. The Federal Correctional Institute in Cumberland, Md. is the go-to for white-collar Washington criminals.
