From the 2016 Republican primary campaign trail comes this seemingly prophetic flashback of Texas Senator Ted Cruz predicting that if elected president, Donald Trump would cut deals with leftist Democrats like now-retired Harry Reid, and current leaders in the Senate and the House respectively, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi .
Speaking in New Hampshire in January 2016, Ted Cruz, who ended up eventually placing a strong second place behind Donald Trump in the 2016 GOP primary, said that the DC establishment was lining up behind Trump because they believe hell cut deals with them.
Cruz told the panel that if you think the problem in Washington is Republicans not making enough deals with Democrats, then Trump is your guy:
Were seeing something fairly remarkable happening on the political terrain Were seeing the Washington establishment abandoning Marco Rubio. I think theyve made the determination that Marco cant win. And theyre rushing to support Donald Trump. And just yesterday Bob Dole explained why the establishment is supporting Donald Trump. They said hes someone we can make a deal with. Hes someone we can cut a deal with.
And I would note Donald just a couple of days ago drew the difference between me and him. And he said, look, Ted wont go along to get along. He wont cut a deal. So if as a voter you think what we need is more Republicans in Washington to cut a deal with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, then I guess Donald Trumps your guy.
On Wednesday, President Trump did just that making a deal with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to raise the debt ceiling, pulling an end around Republicans and conservatives.
Here are a few reactions from a few leading conservatives voices around the web:
In last 48 hours, Trump sided with Schumer and Pelosi on debt ceiling increase and called for Congress to enshrine DACA. So much winning!
