From the 2016 Republican primary campaign trail comes this seemingly prophetic flashback of Texas Senator Ted Cruz predicting that if elected president, Donald Trump would cut deals with leftist Democrats like now-retired Harry Reid, and current leaders in the Senate and the House respectively, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi .

Speaking in New Hampshire in January 2016, Ted Cruz, who ended up eventually placing a strong second place behind Donald Trump in the 2016 GOP primary, said that the DC establishment was lining up behind Trump because they believe he’ll cut deals with them.

Cruz told the panel that if you think the problem in Washington is Republicans not making enough deals with Democrats, then Trump is your guy:

We’re seeing something fairly remarkable happening on the political terrain — We’re seeing the Washington establishment abandoning Marco Rubio. I think they’ve made the determination that Marco can’t win. And they’re rushing to support Donald Trump. And just yesterday Bob Dole explained why the establishment is supporting Donald Trump. They said he’s someone we can make a deal with. He’s someone we can cut a deal with.

And I would note Donald just a couple of days ago drew the difference between me and him. And he said, look, Ted won’t go along to get along. He won’t cut a deal. So if as a voter you think what we need is more Republicans in Washington to cut a deal with Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, then I guess Donald Trump’s your guy.”

On Wednesday, President Trump did just that — making a deal with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to raise the debt ceiling, pulling an end around Republicans and conservatives.

Here are a few reactions from a few leading conservatives voices around the web:

THIS GUY!…

Trump is a feeble minded huckster who is incapble of realizing there are better hucksters than he is.

Well, you have to consider that the R congress refused to cut any deals with Trump, so who else is there for Trump to make deals with?

Trump was the "chosen one" of Bob Dole and the GOP establishment from early on.

That is laughable, frankly. The GOP establishment has always hated Trump, and the R congress refusal to work with him is proof of that.

Perhaps the GOP is succeeding in making him look bad, but the cost of that is keeping Obamacare. Trump absolutely has his flaws and I don't like all he's done, but still, let's be realistic and honest.

The people who elected you.

The people who elected you.

That's right. Take your case directly to the people and declare that this is the hill that you want to die on, if it comes to that.

At least he'd be deserving of respect, even if you don't entirely agree with him.

As it is now, he flip flops and tries to cut deals and nobody knows what he really stands for, if anything? Same old D&R crap method as all the presidents in the recent past.

And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Come election time, sure, but not off-season.

Cruz whining about this is like a bank robber complaining about a shoplifter.

In the entire history of the world, the only nations that had to build walls to keep their own citizens from leaving were those with leftist governments.

Let's not forget that Trump considered to deal with Democrats to pass health care. Apparently the Republicans thought he was bluffing.

We'll see if this is a wake-up call for the Republicans. For the last nine years they've shown they're capable of obstruction. Now let's see if that's all they're capable of.

It was off-season 15 minutes after he was elected because he has no integrity or idealogical commitment. He's a vaudville showman without a script.

Well, you have to consider that the R congress refused to cut any deals with Trump, so who else is there for Trump to make deals with?

EXACTLY.

The Republicans ran for Congress for 8 years on repealing Obamacare, and won, with a Trump Presidency.

But instead of investigating Hillary, and shutting down this fiasco of a Special Prosecution, and of course repealing Obamacare, they have made war on Trump.

Besides, what is Trump to do, let the US government default on its obligations, and prevent aid from getting to Houston.

Republicans are ridiculous human beings. Unable to get any sort of reason or coherence out of them, and needing to avoid a default, Trump went to the people who had the power to make it happen, and they did.

Democrats have so much more party discipline and order, and they are so much more effective. Maybe Trump should see what happens in the mid-term elections and switch parties if the Democrats win and will work with him.

As far as DACA goes, the Republicans always said it was unconstitutional - and they were right. So Trump strikes down an unconstitutional act, and now the Republican pussies are writhing like leeches that had salt poured on them, because now they have to ACT, and the TRUTH IS that Republicans have been an open-borders party since Reagan's amnesty.

The core of the Republican party is the rich, and they LOVE cheap exploitable labor, which is why Republicans never, ever shut the border, even though they usually control the government.

They lie to stupid Republican working and middle class voters, saying they want to stop illegal immigration. Hillary said the same thing, but working and middle class Republican voters didn't believe her - and yet they DO believe the Republicans IN SPITE OF 40 years of contrary evidence.

Republican leaders are lying shitstains. Republican voters are drooling duped rubes.

That's why Trump had to make the deal with the Democrats, because Republicans would rather fight with Trump over power than do what they said they were running for. They are ALWAYS LIARS. Republicans ALWAYS DO THE WRONG THING. They're dependable in that way.

I used to have every Republican on this board come and scream at me, calling me a Communist, a Democrat, a socialist - all of the buzzwords that the Republican cheerleaders have poured into their stupid little minds over the years to keep them duped and walking in the tracks like farm animals, voting against their own interests, voting for liars.

I have noticed that over the past several months the Republicans don't do that anymore. I continue to spew my insults and hatred at the Republican Party, but even the Republicans don't defend the GOP anymore. Now you listen and take it as I bitchslap Republicans for being duped rubes, and for having been duped rubes all along.

Do you know WHY you take it now? Because you see I am right, and I was right all along. Even you Republican rank-and-filers can see when you are DIRECTLY LIED TO by the Republican politicians. They do it every single goddamned time. Even you Republicans are not THAT stupid. Eventually you figure it out.

That's why you let me write this now without rising to their defense - even YOU can't defend them anymore.

The time has come to walk out of that party and form a new one. You can't take over the Democrats - they are too disciplined and too racist and too mobbed up and too clannish to ever let you.

You know now that the Tea Party was just ANOTHER effort by the Republican masters to herd the duped rube working and middle class into voting for Republicans while pretending to do something new. Even you can see that now.

There is no hope whatever of ever reforming the Republican Party. You must destroy it, kill it, by walking out of it and never, ever voting for it again. There is no other way.

That means that the Independent ranks swell and the Democrats win a set..., maybe. Trump works with them, and you hate them both.

Then you form a NEW party, one which does not allow the super rich into its ranks. A middle and working class party that focuses on the basics of middle class life. We elected Trump because he was focused on that, but the REPUBLICANS HAVE STOPPED HIM, entangled him in nonsense.

It's time to blot the Republican Party out of existence for good and make something else. There were enough of us to elect Trump, there are enough of us to make a new party.

For God's sake come out of the GOP and let's get this done. You are useless there as a thrall of the rich who lie to you, screw you, and fleece you. And the alternative isn't to go be a racist socialist Democrat.

No, the alternative is to get what you want, by using your numbers to put in politicians who will follow an agenda. What you want is Democrat party discipline, that is socially conservative and fiscally moderate (not conservative - that means "favor the rich", and that is what has left you on the path to destitution - Reaganomics, trickle-down, DOES NOT WORK. We didn't know that in 1980, when all we knew was that Democrat-style socialism had failed. We tried Reaganomics. It also failed. We need to chuck both.)

"...Republican leaders are lying shitstains. Republican voters are drooling duped rubes....'

Nice rant, Vic! I agree with a lot of your points.

The last vote I cast for a goper at the federal level was in 1996.

There is no hope whatever of ever reforming the Republican Party. You must destroy it, kill it, by walking out of it and never, ever voting for it again.

By following this logic, actively voting against all republicans at every level and without consideration of the candidate's relative value is key.

Indeed, and the message must be spread - loudly - that the gop has committed a mortal sin and all republicans must own their wickedness and accept their punishment.
