Health/Medical Title: Seniors Becoming Fastest Growing Marijuana Users
DENVER (CBS4) – Seniors are becoming as the fastest growing segment of the marijuana industry. According to a national survey, usage among adults 65 and older is up 250 percent, while adults 50-65 have also increased usage nearly 58 percent. “I’ve generally felt that recreational drugs of any kind were no nos, and I still do,” says 91-year-old Duane Kniebes. “Cannabis seems to be somewhere in between.” Kniebes was part of a standing room-only meeting in Louisville meant to educate seniors on marijuana as a treatment for chronic pain. The World War II veteran who suffers from chronic foot pain says his opinion of marijuana has changed dramatically. “All of these years I thought it was in the same category of any other recreational drug” Stratos, a Colorado-based cannabis manufacturer, is trying to reach out to skeptical seniors about using marijuana as a way to treat pain. “I think they have tried a lot of pharmaceuticals and they’re looking to improve their quality of life,” says Kate Heckman, a Stratos spokesperson. “It really appeared there was a gap in education for seniors.” Poster Comment: Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest “All of these years I thought it was in the same category of any other recreational drug” Then that just shows how stupid you are. It's in a different category -- the one that says smoked marijuana has no medical use. "“It really appeared there was a gap in education for seniors.” And you're going to close that gap. Uh-huh. Chances are these seniors are on other medications for whatever. Are there any negative drug interactions between marijuana and their currently prescribed medicines? What's that? You don't know? And you don't know because there haven't been any studies? Yet you're going to "educate" these seniors on the benefits of marijuana? Well, that's simply quackery. You're no diferent than the snake oil salesman at a medicine show.

Just like the big greedy drug companies who push all their dope with all the warnings of problems it could cause. I wonder what happened to "safe and effective if used as directed"? I do not go to church every time the doors are opened, but I love Jesus Christ. I am only human and fail Him daily. I believe Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was crucified on a cross, died for my sins and rose from the dead and that He loves us dearly, and is faithful to forgive us of our sins. But He says that if you deny me in front of your friends I will deny you in front of my Father. Can I get an Amen! #3. To: U don't know me (#2) Just like the big greedy drug companies who push all their dope with all the warnings of problems it could cause. If I know the problems and don't want to take the risk, I can choose not to take the drug. My point is, these seniors don't have a clue about drug interactions with marijuana, the side effects, proper dosage and frequency, and the dangers of bacterial or fungal contamination.
#4. To: misterwhite (#3) I can choose not to take the drug. Good for you. Now how about letting everyone else make their own decision instead of throwing them in jail over a fucking plant for fuck's sake? “Truth is treason in the empire of lies.” - Ron Paul![]() Those who most loudly denounce Fake News are typically those most aggressively disseminating it.#5. To: Deckard (#4) Now how about letting everyone else make their own decision An INFORMED decision, as mine was.
#6. To: misterwhite (#5) An INFORMED decision, as mine was. You don't think Seniors are making INFORMED decisions? Good grief man, WTF is wrong with you? “Truth is treason in the empire of lies.” - Ron Paul![]() Those who most loudly denounce Fake News are typically those most aggressively disseminating it.#7. To: Deckard (#6) You don't think Seniors are making INFORMED decisions? Nope. Mayo's findings are summarized in bullet point (not a complete list): -- Marijuana may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. Doctor's might consider if blood thinning medication can be reduced if marijuana is indicated. -- Marijuana may affect blood sugar levels. People taking drugs for diabetes by mouth or insulin should be monitored closely by a qualified healthcare professional. -- Marijuana may cause low blood pressure. Caution is advised in people taking drugs that lower blood pressure. -- Marijuana may interfere with the way the body processes certain drugs using the liver's cytochrome P450 enzyme system. As a result, the levels of these drugs may be increased in the blood and may cause increased effects or potentially serious adverse reactions. Is this information being passed on to seniors?
