Sometimes I ask a question. Then someone dodges the question. Either because they missed. Or sometimes because they know that they have had their ass kicked.

Stone has obviously never applied for a building permit. Especially not for one for new construction in a coastal area where you need approval by the Coastal Area Management Act,the Army Corps of Engineers,local,and state officials,and sometimes,even the freaking EPA.
People have been fined tens of thousands of dollars for putting in a freaking garden without asking for permits,and then refusing to "restore the area to original condition to pass inspection" and trying to fight government enviro-nazis in a government court. There are people in federal prison for refusing to comply.

No. You can own the car without paying them as long as you keep it on private property.
If you expect to use public roads, you pay for the privilege. Just as you pay for the privilege of a drivers license to operate a vehicle on public roads.
So don't license your vehicle, keep it at home and enjoy it there.
I've got a bill for $71 in front of me. They call it Registration Renewal Notice.
Property taxes contribute to street repair. Gas taxes are for road repair. Registration fees are to help out with policing and other driving-related matters.
You can't compare a drivers license fee or a car registration to something like a sin tax on cigarettes or alcohol or pot.
