Those manufacturing jobs will go to Mexico, where labor is significantly cheaper. Why it matters: Trump heralded the November deal as proof he'd live up to his pledge to protect U.S. jobs. And this comes just one day after Ford reversed its promise and shifted jobs to China instead of Mexico. Refresher on the deal: Trump agreed to give Carrier, a unit of United Technologies, up to $7 million if it continued to employ at least 1,069 people at the facility for 10 years, rather than moving it abroad in search of cheaper labor, as originally planned. To: Willie Green (#0) A president is not a king or dictator, and it's not like Trump has encouraged companies to go off shore. He certainly hasn't unlike so many others like Bush and Obama. Economic forces based on the US dollar being the reserve currency of the world has been the driving force of offshoring. The US exports easily printed paper money (or far more often, electronic credit money) and gets goods in return. It's a great deal for the US consumer and resisting it is swimming upstream.
