The Water Cooler Title: O’Reilly Hints at Competing Network to Fox News: ‘I Am Starting My Own Operation’ On his "The Spin Stops Here" tour in New York on Saturday, O'Reilly was asked if he would start a new network to counter his powerful former home. He said a "bunch of people are looking to compete with Fox because there's a perception of decline," Newsday reports: "But I am starting my own operation. We are going to do that," adding that his website, billoreilly.com, will beta test a half-hour newscast "where we will go into a studio and here it will look like ‘The Factor.' … It's basically an experiment to see how many people are going to want this service. That's coming and will be here before September in a robust form. But I suspect there will be another network maybe merging with us. There will be a network that rises up because the numbers for Fox are going down." O'Reilly was forced out at Fox in April amid a swarm of sexual harassment allegations and reports that the network paid out $13 million to five women so they would not pursue legal action against him. O'Reilly has denied the allegations and said there was an effort led to "destroy" his career. The former host of "The O'Reilly Factor" was a cable ratings champion for much of his two decades at Fox. Poster Comment: I could see O'Reilly and Beck both with one-hour shows on OAN, kind of a package deal. They might not sink FNC but they'd take a bite out of them. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest I could see O'Reilly and Beck both with one-hour shows on OAN, kind of a package deal. I saw O'Reilly give a lengthy interview on OAN where he said pretty much the same thing. I don't think they could pay enough to interest O'Reilly. O'Reilly may be able to get more profit from an online presence like Limbaugh, rather than as an employee of OAN. OAN is pretty much a straight up news operation by conservatives and I doubt they would want Beck and his baggage. And thinking of Fox, it appears they no longer have a straight up news program in prime time. FNC is dominated by talk shows. They need to switch to prison show reruns or infomercials at midnight and the transformation will be complete.

O'Reilly may be able to get more profit from an online presence like Limbaugh, rather than as an employee of OAN. There could be variations. Give Beck a 2-hour weekday show on OAN, have him chew the day's news for a half-hour each day with O'Reilly via remote cam so BOR doesn't have to come to the studio, maybe bring Limbaugh on for an hour on Friday so O'Blarney doesn't get too exhausted. Lots of ways they could schedule this and make it work. O'Reilly is out for a bit of blood and he doesn't have any friends left at FNC anyway (except possibly Hannity). And O'Reilly wants to tell his side of the allegations against him. If O'Reilly does make some kind of cable comeback, it will be for payback. Not for money or ratings especially even though BOR would not return if he thought he'd end up like Larry King doing daily shows on RussiaToday (RT) or Dan Blather doing his little nightly show over on HDNet for some years. Or even Beck with his internet-only subscription video and website. O'Reilly would want a classy studio, be confident he could get enough non-contracted FNC guest talent to fill his timeslots, etc. BOR would look at it as a professional. Besides, BOR will always have his secret lover from "the old days at CBS", Bernie Goldberg, to help him out.
