The special counsel appointed to investigate possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia is now looking into whether President Trump sought to obstruct justice in the investigation, The Washington Post reported. In the wake of Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey last month, the Department of Justice appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the FBI's probe into Russia's role in the 2016 election. The investigation began last summer and encompasses various Trump and his associates' alleged ties to Moscow, as well as the Kremlin's role in mounting a hacking attempt to influence the presidential race in Trump's favor. Trump claimed, and Comey later affirmed, that Comey assured him he was not personally under FBI investigation. That has since changed, according to the Post. Questions about whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice have swirled following Comey's testimony last week to the Senate that the president directed him in February to end the FBI's investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Following the Post's report, Trump's outside attorney slammed the FBI for releasing information about the ongoing investigation. “The FBI leak of information regarding the resident is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal," said Kasowitz spokesperson Mark Corallo. Dude this is a fake narrative. Everyone read Comeys testimony and heard it. If Trump truly obstructed the investigation, then Comey needs to be frogged marched out and arrested for failure to report.
That's ridiculous... especially if Trump's obstruction was the act of firing Comey.
Willie, that will be a tough one for the special prosecutor (SP). First, Comey admitted under oath he told Trump he was not under investigation. That right there removes the motive needed to pin obstruction on Trump. The second point is Trump fired Comey based on the recommendation of the Attorney General and the stated reason was not the Russian probe. Add to that, the President can within his powers fire the FBI director for anything which calls into question the integrity or confidence of the FBI director. The testimony from Comey confirmed why the AG recommended dismissal. Comey is a mess and is easily influenced by political pressure. Pressure which came under the emperor Zer0's administration and Clinton campaign. There's nothing from the Comey testimony which would lead the SP to implicate Trump. There was enough to expand the investigation of obstruction to Lynch, her deputy AG and Obama. But that won't happen. Why? The SP is a Washington insider, served as FBI director while a lot of the illegal activity was happening. He's tainted and that is why he is leading the investigation. You don't hire people who are independent or detached from the issue. You hire people who will keep the gravy train moving and not upset the apple cart. Trump is upsetting the order of things, and that in itself must be stopped if the gravy train is to keep flowing. Willie, as with any SP, they are not there for the original intended purpose of what they should be investigating. A SP is stood up because political opponents want to find something, anything so they can prosecute. The Scooter Libby case is a good example. He was indicted for perjury and not outing a CIA former operative. Even the Bill Clinton SP Ken Starr got Clinton on perjury for the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Starr was investigating the White Water scandal and kept expanding the probe to include other things. The SP is not there to investigate what they were chartered to do. They are there to find something, anything and it does not have to be related to the charter.
Which was the truth... the FBI didn't initiate the investigation into Trump until after Comey was fired... prior to that, they were only investigating underlings like Flynn... Trump tried to protect Flynn by firing Comey & shot himself in the foot.
Considering how the FBI handled the Clinton illegal server scandal, I don't think the special prosecutor has anything here. Remember 'intent' must be proven for anything to be a crime...At least when it came to Comey and Clinton. Here is the Deputy AG's letter on Comey:
It should be an open & shut case... Trump already admitted he fired Comey because of the Russian probe...
