Health/Medical Title: Trump takes Rand Paul on a golf outing to discuss healthcare "They're discussing a variety of topics, including healthcare," White House deputy press secretary Stephanie Grisham said. Budget director Mick Mulvaney, a former leading House conservative, also joined the two. Paul had predicted in early March that the House bill would not pass the Senate. Instead, he proposed his own healthcare bill, though it was not taken up by Congress. After Paul's comments, Trump took to Twitter to put pressure on the senator to support the healthcare bill. "I feel sure that my friend @RandPaul will come along with the new and great health care program because he knows Obamacare is a disaster!" Trump wrote at the time. Trump hinted earlier Sunday on Twitter that there's potential for Republicans to unify around healthcare. His tweet followed a week of attacks on the conservative House Freedom Caucus after the failure of the American Health Care Act. Poster Comment: Hopefully, the pic will show up here at LF. I recall that Trump beat Rand badly at golf before, maybe in 2015. Rand ranks pretty high here, getting to ride in the prez's limo with him. Trump doesn't do that for everyone.(1 image) Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest "I recall that Trump beat Rand badly at golf before" And in the 2016 Presidential primary.
#2. To: misterwhite (#1) I think everyone knew that. I thought maybe some people might not recall that they had golfed before. Apparently, Rand called up Donald to ask him to play golf. Rand made a pitch for a charity donation and Donald made it. So when Rand started attacking Trump (Iowa debate, very first question), Trump went after him. Rand brought up their golf game. Trump said Rand was a lousy player, hadn't bothered to acknowledge that Trump had donated to Rand's charity, and that Rand should just drop out because he was a big honking loser. Or something like that. But now Rand, close associate of the Freedom Caucus and Massie, is playing golf with Trump. And, importantly, Mick Mulvaney. They'll be tossing around budget projections for the current bill and for Rand's alternative and such. I'm thinking Trump wants to hear Rand debate Mulvaney head on, just to hear the key points debated back and forth. The Freedom Caucus has said steadily that no debate was allowed, no testimony, that Trump has been hearing bad info about what the fight is about and bad strategic political advice at the WH. And Trump can beat both of them with one hand tied behind his back. He'll like that part too. If Trump changes course and goes for a more conservative bill, this will be how it starts. Just listening.
#3. To: Tooconservative (#0) Trump is kissing Rand's a$$, all is well. Obamacare can be repealed now. The D&R terrorists hate us because we're free, to vote second party![]() #4. To: hondo68 (#3) (Edited) Trump is kissing Rand's a$$, all is well. You may be a little optimistic there. Interesting that they are negotiating with the Freedom Caucus through a senator. I think Mulvaney tipped Trump off to how much the Freedom Caucus likes Rand. And Mike Lee and Ted Cruz. Since getting a (surprisingly early) Abbott endorsement, Cruz spoke out a bit too against the House bill.
