Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein failed to make the cut for the first presidential debate on Sept. 26, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced on Friday afternoon, in a significant blow for their campaigns. Though Johnson and Stein satisfied two of the criteria necessary to participate – that they be constitutionally eligible and have achieved ballot access in a sufficient number of states to win a theoretical Electoral College majority – neither met the threshold on polling. The commission said Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have been formally invited to participate in the first presidential debate later this month, while their running mates, Tim Kaine and Mike Pence, have been invited to participate in the vice presidential debate on Oct. 4. “[T]he Board determined that the polling averages called for in the third criterion are as follows: Hillary Clinton (43%), Donald Trump (40.4%), Gary Johnson (8.4%) and Jill Stein (3.2%). Accordingly, Hillary Clinton and her running mate, Tim Kaine, and Donald Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, qualify to participate in the September 26 presidential debate and the October 4 vice-presidential debate, respectively. No other candidates satisfied the criteria for inclusion in the September 26 and October 4 debates. The criteria will be reapplied to all candidates in advance of the second and third presidential debates,” the Commission announced. The Commission also said that the candidates who have qualified to participate have previously committed to participate in the debates. In a statement Johnson said he wasn't surprised about being excluded from the debate. But Johnson's statement also signaled he plans to continue pushing for a spot on stage: "There are more polls and more debates, and we plan to be on the debate stage in October." "I would say I am surprised that the CPD has chosen to exclude me from the first debate, but I’m not," the statement read. "The only time a third candidate has been allowed on the stage was 1992, when both parties wanted him on the stage for their own purposes. It should be noted that, when [Ross] Perot was allowed on the stage, polls showed his support to be in single digits, below where Johnson and Weld are currently polling."

Trump may fall on the meter of some within the "socialist" band of the spectrum. But whatever your take on Trump, he's the only likely alternative to a return to power of the most corrupt pair of grifters ever to run for national office in my lifetime. The very prospect gives millions of us the shivers right down to the bone. There is a Republic of old that many of us still revere. The Libertarians and Conservatives (who got my support last time) will not restore it however. That Olde Republic had a lot going for it. An unparalleled industrial & agricultural economy was built up upon it for one thing. We live off the fruits of those heydays even today. Some things were not so good. Enough to say we get lectured on those themes by our native experts in self-flagellation. They are not our friends. In any case, that Republic will not return in our lifetimes. Trump promises to put us back on track in a number of important ways, and he may succeed. Or he may not, given the forces ranged against anyone who preaches against institutionalized globalization and national suicide. But I know what I'm going to get with Hill and Bill - more destructive war, high level graft, and unspeakable demagoguery and division. Heaven won't help us if we let those two back at the levers of power. Can you imagine?? And neither will voting for Bernie, Jill, Gary or Darrell. They don't have the punch to get there. The clock is running out on September. Let's get real. That's the way most of the people I know feel about it today.
I think we'd be hard pressed to find a better justification for civil disobedience at the federal level than the event of Hill & Bill getting back into the White House.

These assclowns need to quit wasting other people's time and money and go seat alone in the high school cafeteria. That's the only thing they're good at.

I'm with ya brother. Incidentally, I meant to say Constitution Party instead of "Conservatives." I got Britain on the brain today. I voted for Virgil Goode in 2012. He's switched back to the Pub's and is endorsing Donald Trump this year. He says, "He is the only candidate truly focused on reforming our immigration system."
