Chemo kills up to 50% of cancer patients in some hospitals

Patients should be warned about the dangers of chemotherapy after new research published in The Lancet Oncology showed that chemo kills up to 50% of cancer patients in some hospitals.

For the first time researchers looked at the numbers of cancer patients who died within 30 days of starting chemotherapy, which indicates that the medication is the cause of death, rather than the cancer.

Almost 1,400 patients with either breast or lung cancer died in England in 2014 within a month of being given chemotherapy, roughly 8.4% of lung cancer patients, and 2.4% of breast cancer patients.

In some hospitals the figure was far higher. In Milton Keynes the death rate for lung cancer treatment was 50.9%, although it was based on a very small number of patients.

Deaths of lung cancer patients from chemotherapy were also far higher than the national average in Blackpool, Coventry, Derby, South Tyneside and Surrey and Sussex, according to the research.

At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals the 30 day mortality rate was 28% for palliative chemotherapy for lung cancer.

Palliative treatments are given to “extend life” or “improve quality of life”–two highly debatable claims considering that the few weeks or months of extra life that a patient might get usually just involves extra suffering. What’s worse is that many patients getting palliative care think they are getting curative treatments

Four years ago, I reported on an American study, which found that at least two-thirds of patients with terminal cancer believed they were getting potentially curative chemotherapy, even though the treatment was only palliative, because their doctors didn’t explain the differenc

The British study looked at more than 23,000 women with breast cancer and nearly 10,000 men with non-small cell lung cancer who underwent chemotherapy in 2014. Of those treated 1,383 died within 30 days.

The researchers also found that there were significant differences in survival for older people and those in poorer health. They advised doctors to be more careful in selecting patients for treatment where it could do more harm than good.

According to the authors of the study by Public Health England and Cancer Research UK, “patients dying within 30 days after beginning treatment [with chemotherapy] are unlikely to have gained the survival or palliative benefits of the treatment, and in view of the side-effects sometimes caused … are more likely to have suffered harm”.

“I think it’s important to make patients aware that there are potentially life threatening downsides to chemotherapy. And doctors should be more careful about who they treat with chemotherapy.” -Professor David Dodwell, Institute of Oncology, St James Hospital, Leeds, UK.

Here’s a surprising statement from one of the study’s authors, Dr. Jem Rashbass:

“The easiest way not to kill your patients with chemotherapy is not to give it to anyone, and that is clearly wrong.”

Ahhhh! That quote started off so well, but then after the comma it took a horrible turn.

Friends, that statement pretty much sums up the fully indoctrinated (ahem, brainwashed) cancer industry mentality. They truly believe it is wrong not to give cancer patients chemotherapy, even when their research shows that chemo kills.

Chris Wark, whose website and blog Chris Beat Cancer sells the idea that he beat his cancer with nutrition and “natural therapies” that he used to “heal himself.” All of this wouldn’t be quite so horrible—after all, there are lots of people who believe in woo and say so publicly—except that Wark is now also selling all sorts of misinformation about cancer, at $175 for a two hour phone consultation. Regular readers will recognize right away where Mr. Wark goes wrong in his story. Even so, I think it’s worthwhile to take a look because since discovering Mr. Wark’s site I’ve seen his name popping up all over the place promoting “natural” cures, and his site has become a repository of all sorts of “alternative cancer cure” testimonials, as well as credulously promotional material for quackery like Gerson therapy, the Beck protocol, and the Gonzalez protocol.

Let’s take a look at Mr. Wark’s story here.

I do not doubt this.

For one Chemo tries to kill the cancer which means it tries to kill a biological mass and we are all biological masses before cancer kills the host.

Sometimes its just not worth going through. Sometimes its just too late and the host is just too weak to handle the chemo. To me this is where pot comes into play. The biggest issue with chemo is that it knocks you out and makes you so weak you do not want to eat which means you will die. Pot will control nausea and give you the desire to eat with no real side effects(chemo/cancer can there be anything worse when it comes to side effects). I guess if being happy is a side effect(Maybe we can put some pot in the middle east water supply)!

My mother swears that the chemo killed her sister because they people did not know what they hell they were doing. When I talk to my aunt she said before dying she wished she would have never gone through chemo. She had cancer twice. The second round of cancer got her or the chemo got her.

So a guy who is selling a "natural" cancer treatment alternative is telling us the traditional methods don't work?

This would be funny, except that many desperate cancer patients will believe what this con man says. Despicable.

The ariticle does not mention that he had surgery on December 30th, 2003, when a right hemicolectomy and resection of terminal ileum. 18 cm of his ileum and colon was removed along with a golf ball sized tumor (4.5 x 4 x 2 cm) and 49 lymph nodes. Four lymphs nodes tested positive for adenocarcinoma.
This would be funny, except that many desperate cancer patients will believe what this con man says. Despicable.
So true. There too many gullible assholes who read something they want to believe and accept it as the gospel. They will swear by it and probably die before they will disbelieve it. I call this mindset the “Paultard Syndrome.”

You missed one, Chemotherapy.

I do not go to church every time the doors are opened, but I love Jesus Christ. I am only human and fail Him daily. I believe Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was crucified on a cross, died for my sins and rose from the dead and that He loves us dearly, and is faithful to forgive us of our sins. But He says that if you deny me in front of your friends I will deny you in front of my Father. Can I get an Amen!

The above would be funny if were not for the FACT, that I am alive and doing very well.

I am dying to see the comments the chemo/radiation lovers will post when my book comes out about how I killed my colon cancer. Complete with my VA medical records to verify that I never used either chemotherapy or radiation.

And that my last colonoscopy showed only one benign polyp.

Elected and unelected Bureaucrats, leeches, and cockroaches are all part of the same family in the animal kingdom.
