Computers-Hacking Title: Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10? Any advice? The deadline for free upgrade looms. I'm in the process of backing up my files. Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest #1. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) I have several computers in my home network. I have migrated all of them but one to Windows 10. The one that isn't migrated runs older hardware and Windows 10 complains. For all the others, the migration from Windows 7 to 10 was seamless with no issue at all. The only problem I have experienced is with file explorer; I have found that independent of hardware that file explorer may freeze from tyme to tyme. It isn't a problem, though unless moving massive amounts of data; just bring up the task manager and close the application and restart file explorer and you are good to go.
#2. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) Has anyone upgraded to Windows 10? Any advice? Do it. Bill Gates needs the money.
#3. To: rlk (#2) Do it. Bill Gates needs the money. LOL! If I do it at all, it'll be while it's still free. A government strong enough to impose your standards is strong enough to ban them. #4. To: ConservingFreedom (#3) Do it. Bill Gates needs the money. Nor it other people need to buy upgrades to communicate with you.
#5. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) Remove (delete) your old applications (Acrobat, Word, CCleaner, Spybot, Games, whatever), load Win10, the reload those applications from disk or the Internet. Win10 tries to so this for you but is not very good at it. My experience, anyways. Other than that, it's a shitty version. Locks up, blue screen, quits for no reason. Their main screen is useless and childlike. If it has great new features, I wouldn't know since I haven't used them yet.
#6. To: misterwhite (#5) ROTFL ... you are a total lamer.
#7. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) I may just do it because I find Windows 8 versions useless. In bridge, you have wild cards called trump cards. The trump cards are really wild because they change from hand to hand, depending on the bidding. #8. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) I still use Windows 95. Obama has played at being a president while enjoying the perks … golf, insanely expensive vacations at tax-payer expense. He has ignored the responsibilities of the job; no plans, no budgets, no alternatives … just finger pointing; making him a complete failure as a president #9. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) Use XP or perhaps Win 7 or Linux. Win 10 is a spying machine
#10. To: A Pole (#9) I still use XP. No problems Si vis pacem, para bellum Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who don't Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God. if you look around, we have gone so far down the the rat hole, the almighty is going to have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah, if we don't have a judgement come down on us. President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people. --Clint Eastwood "I am concerned for the security of our great nation; not so much because of any threat from without, but because of the insidious forces working from within." -- General Douglas MacArthur #11. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) The deadline for free upgrade looms. I'm in the process of backing up my files. Yes don't! If I wanted an apple I would have bought an apple! You know you do not have to up grade?
#12. To: tomder55 (#7) Xp or Win 7. The rest just suck.
#13. To: tomder55 (#7) You need a touch screen for these versions to be useful. Don't do it unless you really need to
#14. To: paraclete, Justified (#13) Thanks . I'm told that I'd lose too much of the remaining space on my pc if I convert . I need to get a new laptop soon . But I don't like touch screen anything . I even have trouble with Kindle. My fingers are too big. In bridge, you have wild cards called trump cards. The trump cards are really wild because they change from hand to hand, depending on the bidding. #15. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) I'm using Linux Mint 18 with the Cinnamon desktop. I installed the free VMWare player and run Windows 7 32 bit in that VM with 2 gig of ram. That's for the Windows software I own that won't run in WINE.
#16. To: All (#0) The deed is done. Apart from having to re-customize my touchpad settings, no problems so far. A government strong enough to impose your standards is strong enough to ban them. #17. To: tomder55 (#14) Tom when you use a touch screen you use a styliss, slows down your typing speed but helps avoid the big finger mistakes. Embrace the technology but be sure to insure it these touch screens get damaged very easily, usually by frustrated users throwing them across the room in the early days. There are also more expensive versions which have a docking station and keyboard
#18. To: ConservingFreedom (#0) Unless you use a tablet with touchscreen-only, stick with Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate.
#19. To: Hank Rearden (#18) The improved Windows OS 10 doesn't require a touch screen; yet it offers advanced features which combine Windows 7. Why are you so limited in review?
#20. To: buckeroo (#19) Why are you so limited in review? Because I'm running Win10 on my cheap little tablet to play with - it's a mess and there are constant forced updates. And, this is the version that MS is developing into massive spyware and seeks to control 'renting' instead of owning a copy, requiring those updates to keep up with their latest advertising schemes. I have yet to find a single feature that's better then Win7-64 Ultimate, except that it works better on touch-only machines.
