Watching The Cops Title: Police shoot unarmed black therapist lying flat on his back with his arms in the air while he tried to calm his autistic patient and BEGGED cops not to open fire
An unarmed Florida therapist was shot by police while trying to calm down his autistic patient, authorities said. Police in North Miami were responding to a report of a man with what appeared to be a gun when they came across Charles Kinsey and his patient, who had run away from a group home. 'All he has is a toy truck — a toy truck,' Kinsey pleads with cops, lying flat on the ground with arms raised, as seen in cell phone footage of the incident. 'I am a behavior therapist at a group home.' Kinsey tries to get his patient to comply, using soothing words so he remains calm. 'Rinaldo, please be still, Rinaldo,' he is heard saying in video released by WSVN. 'Sit down, Rinaldo. Lay on your stomach.' 'Don't shoot me,' Kinsey begs. An officer then fires three times, striking Kinsey in the leg, authorities said. No weapon was found. Kinsey is black. Police haven't released the name or race of the officer who shot him.
Kinsey, 47, says the 911 caller must have mistaken a toy that the autistic man had for a gun. 'I'm like this right here, and when he shot me, it was so surprising,' Kinsey told WSVN. 'I thought it was a mosquito bite, and when it hit me I had my hands in the air, and I'm thinking I just got shot! 'And I'm saying, 'Sir, why did you shoot me?' and his words to me were, 'I don't know.'' ![]() Kinsey was taken to a local hospital with bullet wounds to his legs. He is expected to go home later this week Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest Begin Trace Mode for Comment # 7. I think this comes down to you can't use cops as a catchall tool of life but people still do. If he is a mental patient then he should have been treated as such with special people(such as the therapist) to get him back to the proper place. Right now the cops are on edge and probably treating every situation as a setup. BTW im from Texas and that pavement must have been scorching!
#3. To: Justified (#2) (Edited) I think this comes down to you can't use cops as a catchall tool of life but people still do. I think it comes down to cops cannot shoot unarmed, wholly innocent people who present no threat, and not be imprisoned for it just like everybody else. There is no excuse here. The cop shot somebody without justification. He must be prosecuted and punished for it. There is no excuse.
#7. To: Vicomte13 (#3) In this specific case I think the guy will need to charge appropriately. This is not like Michael Brown where it was self defense but well I not sure what. Some people have no business being a police officers. This happens when you need too many officers that you have take what you can get. Too many laws to enforce and police being ask to do too much. But this is what happens when people elect the progressives(R or D) in office.
Replies to Comment # 7. To me this is worse than when the office shot the guy in the back. When the perp fought with the officer and then ran away so the cop shot him in the back. Thats bad but somewhat understandable. The cop letting his anger get the better of him but there is one less criminal in the world.
