OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (KSWO) - The Oklahoma State Department of Education recommended that schools not buy any textbooks because of lack of state funding.
The department said lawmakers failed to appropriate funding for textbooks during the fiscal year beginning July 1st.
State Superintendent Joy Hofmeister spoke out saying students will be forced to use "outdated and tattered school books held together by duct tape."
The 13-member state textbook committee is expected to consider the recommendation of delaying textbook selection by a year at a special meeting later this month.
Last fiscal year, $33 million was allocated for textbooks.

Now wait you allocate 33million for books but you do not have money for books?
This sounds like politics. If you allocated 33 million that means you have 33 million in an account budgeted for books. So either it was spent on something else or prices went up and they do not have the money to cover the overages.
Why do they have to buy books all the time? Its the same old knowledge from 100's of years ago. Math and English are the same. Science is pretty much the same. We need sex-ed books?

They had $33 million LAST year and $0 THIS year...
Why do they have to buy books all the time?
Oklahoma has around 650,000 kids in public school in grades K~12. I doubt that the all get all new books every year... But they probably replace books as they wear-out every year (maybe 15% to 20% every year, assuming books last 5~7 years before they wear out.) Kids are rough on books, maybe they have to replace them more often than that.
33million last year they could have replaced 1/3 of the kid's books. You figure books gotta last at least 5 years on average.
Well it's Oklahoma... so I suppose affluent white school districts replace them every year and black/minority school districts are only given enough to replace them once every 15 years or so...

If you believe that I have a house on the moon for sale and its really cheap!

Maybe Obozo is withholding school money because the state has told him to stick his transgender bathroom agenda where the sun doesn't shine (on normal people that is)!!
Vegetarians eat vegetables. Beware of humanitarians!

There are several states where the State Supreme Court has ruled that the Legislature was remiss in funding schools. It is collusion, to bring down the education system and bring it under a "better steward" the US Federal Government. Just as the FedGov is salivating over nationalizing the police force, they want to add education to the stable over which they have total control.
