Washington (CNN)Former Vice President Dick Cheney will support Donald Trump, he told CNN Friday, an important move as the presumptive Republican nominee is encountering intense resistance from senior members of his own party. Cheney told CNN Special Correspondent Jamie Gangel that he has always supported the GOP nominee and will do so this year as well.

The announcement makes Cheney one of the few Republican Party elders to announce their support of Trump and comes a day after House Speaker Paul Ryan told CNN he is "just not ready" to back Trump.

Former President George W. Bush, who Cheney served, said this week he would skip this summer's Republican convention where Trump will be formally nominated. Former President George H.W. Bush and John McCain and Mitt Romney, the GOP's 2008 and 2012 nominees, also don't plan to attend the convention.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, meanwhile, said Friday he would sit this election out because he can't bring himself to vote for either Trump or Hillary Clinton. Graham said he was a "little bit" surprised when informed by CNN's Dana Bash that Cheney was supporting Trump.

"Dick Cheney's a great man. We see the world a lot alike when it comes to foreign policy. I can understand when people want to support the nominee of the Republican Party. I would like to be able to do that, but I just can't," Graham said. "Maybe I'm the outlier here. Probably am. There'll be Democrats who can't support Hillary Clinton, and you know some of them will hold their nose and vote for her. Some of them will do it enthusiastically."

Cheney will support anything with an R, including Satan. It doesn't matter how evil, he's for Satan(R), or whatever.

It's the Democrat & Republican way. The party faithful are on the highway to hell, and the sky’s the limit.

What he said in no way implies that, moron.

That's not what I said, and Cheney's talking about the general election, not the primary freak show.

If the party paints itself into the corner during the primaries, so that there are only horrible choices come convention time, who's fault is that? If you've got the integrety to refuse to vote for the evil R or D then you're not the problem. But if you always vote for the R or D regardless of the candidate, you ARE the problem.

It's the elites fault, but also the dumbass party faithful who support the corrupt machine, and allow themselves to be manipulated into voting for evil!

So the people who voted for Trump in the primaries aren't going to vote for him in the general?

"If the party paints itself into the corner during the primaries, so that there are only horrible choices come convention time, who's fault is that?"

How did the Party do that? There were 17 candidates at the beginning of the primaries - 17. What had the party to do about that? Kick some out? Per- select a winner? Cheat? Fudge results? It was the voters that made the choice. It was the voters that rejected at least 12 or so "better" candidates than Trump. So whose fault is it? Certainly the elites in the REP Party had ignored its voting baser and had a totally deaf ear to what voters are saying about how feed up they are with the Party elite with many feeling betrayed by the Party elite. So exactly how was the REP voters manipulated into voting for the Party's choice?

Trump's nomination is nothing short of a political, if not social, revolution. So whose fault is that?

потому что Бог хочет это тот путь
