Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has accused China of "raping" the US, in renewed criticism of China's trade policy. He told a rally in Indiana that China was responsible for "the greatest theft in the history of the world". Mr Trump, a billionaire businessman, has long accused China of manipulating its currency to make its exports more competitive globally. This, he says, has badly damaged US businesses and workers. "We can't continue to allow China to rape our country, and that's what we're doing," he told the campaign rally on Sunday. "We're going to turn it around, and we have the cards, don't forget it," he added. "We have a lot of power with China." China's complex relationship with Trump Trump favours high tariffs on China exports Mr Trump, in his campaign manifesto, pledges to "cut a better deal with China that helps American businesses and workers compete". He sets out four goals that include immediately declaring China "a currency manipulator" and putting "an end to China's illegal export subsidies and lax labour and environmental standards". Latest figures from the US government show the trade deficit with China reached an all-time high of $365.7bn (£250.1bn) last year. By February this year, it had already reached $57bn. There was no immediate response from Beijing to Mr Trump's comments, but he is seen by many in China as an inspiration rather than an antagonist, says the BBC's Vincent Ni. nations go through times of trade surplus and trade deficit, and management of this is what government is about. What Dump doesn't realise is that this doesn't work the same as business because it is the result of the trading of thousands of businesses. If he wants to change the equation then innovation is needed to get away from these old products China is making and exporting. Dump thinks this is about currency manipulation, so if he wants to play China's game he needs to devalue the US Dollar. If he does that he might get a short term bounce in the US economy and the balance of trade but the US needs to sell more products it is good at making, Planes, Automobiles, Gadgets and stop buying crap from China, but who owns these plants in China? A defacto result of the USD being the world reserve currency.
It's made everyone want USD whien the US can simply print as much of it that's desired. Essentially it creates the same effect as a counterfeit operation, only it's legal. I.e. it allows unproductive part of the economy to extract goods and services from it without contributing anything in return. That's what the trade deficit actually reflects.
Makes for a great vacation, but with a severe consequence when USD's aren't wanted any more.

Establishment brain trusts, such as yourself, have achieved huge trade deficits and $19 trillion in debt, 18T since 1981. It is slated to rise to $21T. What Trump realizes, along with millions of others, is that such debt is not sustainable.

I said it about a private citizen. Business executives are private citizens.
Many mortgages went underwater and it made no economic sense to keep paying for decades. Many Joe Citizens stopped paying and let the bank have the house. The citizens were not scoundrels. They did nothing unlawful. The banks did.
As for chapter 11, it is used for reorganization. The alternative is dissolution of the company with a court directing liquidation of assets and the payment of pennies on the dollar.
Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4 empowered Congress "To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States."
