Science-Technology Title: SpaceX lands its first stage on ocean barge for the first time
Post Comment Private Reply Ignore Thread Top • Page Up • Full Thread • Page Down • Bottom/Latest Great news for private space. That makes two first stages recovered making it more likely that such recovery landings will become routine. Next they have to try a refurbishment of the craft and use it during another sat. launch. That will really bring down the cost of commercial space . SpaceX employees watched from Mission Control in Hawthorne, California, and burst into wild applause as many jumped up and down cheering, “U.S.A., U.S.A.” The Dragon capsule is on it's way to ISS . In the future it will be redesigned for human travel. "If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools." Plato #2. To: TooConservative, *Science and technology*, *Space News* (#0) This is great news! It was only a couple of decades ago that only the richest governments in the entire world could afford to put together programs like this,or even to have the ability to create them. Now it is being done by private companies working for profit. IMO,this is every bit as much of a milestone as the Soviet launch of Sputnik was. BOYCOTT PAYPAL AND CLOSE YOUR PP ACCOUNTS NOW! ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO SO,TOO! ISLAM MEANS SUBMISSION! Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? (Ron Paul,2012) American Indians had open borders. Look at how well that worked out for them. #3. To: sneakypete (#2) IMO,this is every bit as much of a milestone as the Soviet launch of Sputnik was. It is historic, I think. Bezos launched and landed his little tourist rocket again a few days ago, just seeking attention. A nice accomplishment but landing SpaceX's rocket is an order of magnitude more difficult than Bezos' tourist toy.

That's when the costs for a launch drop dramatically. I would guess that a first-launch rocket will cost the most. And they will price it down for subsequent launches due to increasing risk of aging equipment. The first-launch rockets will be used for human launches and they'll launch satellites with the reused rockets.
