Corrupt Government Title: Emails reveal Google is now in the business of overthrowing governments (INTELLIHUB) Emails between former Secretary of State Hillary Clintons team and Google reveal that the company sought to help the U.S. government overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad in the midst of the countries brutal 2012 civil war. The emails, released by the whistle-blowing website Wikileaks, paint a clear picture of one of the most powerful companies in the world working in lockstep with the State Department to achieve their geopolitical goals. Please keep close hold, but my team is planning to launch a tool on Sunday that will publicly track and map the defections in Syria and which parts of the government they are coming from, wrote Cohen in an email to several top Clinton officials. Our logic behind this is that while many people are tracking the atrocities, nobody is visually representing and mapping the defections, which we believe are important in encouraging more to defect and giving confidence to the opposition, continued Cohen. Cohen then goes on to reveal that yes, corporations and governments do actively use the media to decimate their tools of disinformation and for their part the media is happy to oblige. Given how hard it is to get information into Syria right now, we are partnering with Al-Jazeera who will take primary ownership over the tool we have built, track the data, verify it, and broadcast it back into Syria, Cohen revealed. Ive attached a few visuals that show what the tool will look like. Please keep this very close hold and let me know if there is anything else you think we need to account for or think about before we launch. We believe this can have an important impact. The email message was addressed to multiple top Clinton officials, including one who eventually forwarded it straight to Clinton herself. The officials included deputy secretary of state Bill Burns, senior Clinton adviser Alec Ross, and Clintons deputy chief of staff Jake Sullivan who subsequently sent it to Clinton as a pretty cool idea. While the emails are startling in the fact that they clearly show Google working with the government to overthrow a foreign leader, any honest observer should have seen this coming after Google hired former State Department ideas man Jared Cohen in 2010 to head up Google Ideas, described by the company as a sort of in-house think/do tank. Writing in his new book, When Google Met Wikileaks, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who met with both Cohen and Google CEO Eric Schmidt, described Cohen like this this: Schmidt was penning a treatise with Jared Cohen, the director of Google Ideas, an outfit that describes itself as Googles in-house think/do tank. I knew little else about Cohen at the time. In fact, Cohen had moved to Google from the US State Department in 2010. He had been a fast-talking Generation Y ideas man at State under two US administrations, a courtier from the world of policy think tanks and institutes, poached in his early twenties. He became a senior advisor for Secretaries of State Rice and Clinton. At State, on the Policy Planning Staff, Cohen was soon christened Condis party-starter, channeling buzzwords from Silicon Valley into US policy circles and producing delightful rhetorical concoctions such as Public Diplomacy 2.0.2 On his Council on Foreign Relations adjunct staff page he listed his expertise as terrorism; radicalization; impact of connection technologies on 21st century statecraft; Iran. It is important to note that this information is all the more shocking when you consider the fact that the efforts to overthrow Assad are what largely laid the groundwork for the rise of the Islamic State. Now, instead of strategically dealing with a belligerent strong man in Assad we are stuck fighting a world wide war against a vicious Islamic insurgency hellbent on killing Christians across the world and instituting a worldwide Islamic caliphate. And apparently we can now add Google Ideas to the list of culprits who helped bring us this mess.
