Protesting "wise guy" comments from Fox News about his criticism of anchor Megyn Kelly, Donald Trump said Tuesday he likely won't participate in Thursday's Republican debate -- and his campaign manager said later the GOP front-runner would in fact skip the event.

"Most likely, I'm not going to be doing the debate," Trump told reporters before a rally in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, later told reporters that the businessman would definitely not participate, and said it is not a matter of negotiation.

Trump has threatened a debate boycott all week, describing Kelly as a "lightweight" who is biased against him.

Trump's criticism led to pushback from Fox News, including one statement from the network earlier Tuesday that drew the businessman's ire: “We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.”

Citing that statement, Trump said that Fox is "playing games" and that he will do an event for wounded warriors instead of Thursday's debate.

Trump has attacked Kelly since an Aug. 6 debate in which the Fox anchor asked him about statements demeaning women. Kelly has declined to respond to Trump's attacks, but Fox has defended her and insisted she be part of the debate.

Earlier this week, Fox said: "Megyn Kelly has no conflict of interest. Donald Trump is just trying to build up the audience for Thursday's debate, for which we thank him."

Without Trump there would be no debates but only an array of politicians hiding in a cloud of evasive dialogue spiced with occasional wit and trying to pretend there's a real difference among them.

Kelly hit Thrump with a question containing unproven presupositions and it pissed Trump off. It's the old, "Have you stopped beating your wife?" trick in which the question is really an accusation. Trump is not very well schooled in the techniques of advocacy or he would have handled it much better. He's a business man and builder, not a lawyer or theologin.

LOL some Aussie on another site has this as his tagline.

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8)

There have been too many debates already. By deciding to put Megan Kelly back there after the last fiasco, Fox News was planning a Pearl Harbor. Trump avoided that by refusing to play ball.

So now Fox will have an unwatched debate, and the debating seasons is effectively ended.

Voting starts shortly in Iowa, and Trump is going to win that. And that will be that.

By going after the future President, NR and Fox have damaged their brands to a degree that they will never fully recover. What works against a dependent dwarf does not work against Trump.

But the smearing season continues and the elitists must derail Trump.

They WANT to derail Trump, but they can't.

They can't because there are too many of us middle class and working class people who have been right royally screwed by Republican economics and Democrat racialism.

Trump has been in our living rooms with us for two decades. We know him. We like him. We like the fact that they DON'T like him. It gives us hope.

So, we're going to put him in office.

And then the question will be whether or not he really is what he appears to be. If he is, his policies will start to build back up the middle class and working class. He will get the money to do it from the elites, involuntarily, through taxation and regulation.

So the elites are fighting him frantically because they recognize that he is going to really hurt them when he gets power. They will have less money, less power, less influence.

We haven't had a reversal like this since FDR won the Election of 1932, when the people completely repudiated the Republican Establishment. This time, the people are repudiating BOTH Establishments.

The good news (for Republicans) is that Trump is running as a Republican, so as the future unfolds, decades in the future they will get the electoral benefit of Trump's success. But for now, they are standing with their old moneymen, even as a rip-tide of the people changes the rules of the game.

Trump is going to cut the nuts off the elite once he wins, by targeting their source of power: their money.

Cruz has challenged Ducking Donald to a one on one debate . But I don't think Trump will do it . If he can't handle Megyn Kelly.................

He won't do it, because there is nothing in it for him.

Cruz was a college debate team guy. He debates well.

The Presidency isn't about debating, it's about execution.

Trump is a master at execution.

One aspect of being an executive is to know when to cut off the jaw-jaw, because it serves no positive purpose.

There have already been a lot of debates. Everybody already knows the differences between Trump and Cruz. Trump will win in Iowa, and that will be the end of Cruz, so why go debate Cruz in a one-on-one format, where Cruz will look great, because he's been a debate team guy all his life?

No reason to.

The big "Republican Debate" was sort of an obligatory thing, but then Fox decided to load it up with "get Trump" stuff, including Megan Kelly. Megan Kelly was out of line in the first debate. There is no reason at all that Trump should put up with her again.

There is no advantage to Donald in going in there to get shit on by a bitch who has already made it clear she hates him, and who will control the questions and microphone. So he wisely decided "Nope", and that's that.

You have already made up your mind on Trump - you don't like him. Since he will be the Republican nominee, you're going to have the choice between voting for a man you've spent months hating, voting for Hillary or for Sanders, or staying home.

Trump has thrown down the gauntlet. He is basically saying (as you imply above) Megan Kelly can have the worst ratings of her career by not Trump not attending. It was a business and marketing lesson from him. It will probably turn out to be a good one for him and bad decision by Fox.

As it turns out he will instead raise money for wounded veterans. Good move and I do truly believe his heart is in supporting veterans.

Now I would like to hear why he is truly Pro-Life and like the other candidates where he believes life begins and his views on personhood. This is very important.

Trump effectively squelched any opposition to him leading up to the Iowa vote. His polling firms must think he has it in the bag or at least will get enough delegates to make it a wash (no one else gets more than he does).

So now Cruz will be the target.

In some ways Trump did Cruz a favor as Cruz will mop the floor with JEB! and that little annoyance will be gone.

This also gives more time for Rubio to engage JEB! and Christie.

Finally, with Trump not there I believe Rand will get a strong voice in the debate as he can be very engaging when not shouted down.

I think all the also-rans will hit on Cruz. And Cruz and all the also-rans will also hit on Trump repeatedly.

I think !Jeb¡ will take more shots at Rubio since he's been spending a million a day running negative ads against Marco.

You can bet every campaign is strategizing how to take advantage of Trump's absence. And also what they will do if Trump flies in at the last minute.

Trump might be planning to come but trying to throw the others off their debate game or try to gin up his supporters with a last-minute appearance ("Well, all my friends on Twitter said I should debate so, being the great man that I am, I felt compelled to satisfy their desire to see me in this puny debate.").

If he does show last minute it means he snubs the wounded Vet event he has planned. If he planned such an event yet.

This little tidbit I found looking for the Trump wounded Vet event (could not find yet):

DONALD J. TRUMP ENDORSED BY MARICOPA COUNTY ARIZONA SHERIFF JOE ARPAIO

(New York, NY) January 26th, 2016 – Today Donald J. Trump received Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s endorsement. The Sheriff is well known for his hard-line stance on illegal immigration. Sheriff Arpaio joined Mr. Trump at his rally in Marshalltown, Iowa to voice his support less than one week before the Iowa Caucus.

Don't think so . Fox is sticking to a principled decision that he can't dictate terms of an interview/debate. What next ? The candidates submitting the questions they answer? I know the DNC gets away with it .

Trump is also disengenuous about FOX. He is on Greta ,O'Reilly ,and Hannity ad- nausium. There is no basis to the charge that he is being unfairly treated . His position should be the same one that Newt took ;challenge the question's legitimacy and redirect . Let's face facts . Trump has everything to lose and nothing to gain ;especially if he has a bad performance. That is the real reason he's bugging out .

Trump gave Fox fair warning. Plus, Megyn Kelly already did one debate. Give someone else a chance.

But by intentionally putting her in, Fox is making the news, not reporting it. A big no-no, very unprofessional, and not a good business decision -- they're going to lose millions in advertising.

Once again, Trump dominates the news cycle. He's afraid? Hah! He's send a huuuge message to the MSM -- Don't F**k With Me.

"Fox is sticking to a principled decision that he can't dictate terms of an interview/debate."

Fox didn't need to have Megyn Kelly do the debate. This was a ratings move -- Watch Megyn Kelly vs. The Donald, Round II.

"There is no basis to the charge that he is being unfairly treated.

He said Megyn Kelly was biased, as evidenced by her first question in the last debate alluding to some War on Women by Trump. And he's right.

"Trump has everything to lose and nothing to gain ;especially if he has a bad performance. That is the real reason he's bugging out."

True. Making this a smart move. Besides, these "debates" are a joke. All they are is a big gotcha game with the MSM then deciding who "won" and who "lost".

Don't think so ;but I have not read all Batman issues is years . Humpty Dumpty is a relatively new villian. Maybe he will be a character in the television series 'Gotham'. They use Arkham Asylum as one of their main sets . I borrowed the quote direct from Lewis Carroll .

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

So now Fox will have an unwatched debate, and the debating seasons is effectively ended.

We'll see.

We'll see.

Yes we will. And if I am right, I'll jump up and down shouting cock-a-doodle- do! and shoving it in the faces of the Trump detractors.

And I'll have a lot of fun doing it.

If I'm wrong? I'll just shrug my shoulders and won't care.

Interesting you mention that. The M-I-L has not voted for a presidential candidate for eons. She said she will vote for Trump or not vote at all. Thinking there are a lot like her.

She also said there is no reason to watch the debate tomorrow if Trump is not there. So supports your statement.

Her main reason for supporting Trump is that he gets things done and the bums in DC can't properly clean a Johnnie (that would be bathroom).

Plus she is a NY gal and she likes her NY men.

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8)

Trump appeals to middle class and working class Americans, because middle class and working class Americans are screwed by open borders, free trade, and forever war, and there is not one politician of any stature who has supported the broad back of the people on this in any sense for decades.

In fact, the people have been laughed at, put down, more by Republicans than Democrats too. Democrats have been very effective at identity politics, protecting the bailiwicks of various minorities.

Republicans have protected a certain minority: the very rich, very well.

But all of this has been at the EXPENSE of the middle class and the working class.

The middle class and working class are being squeezed out of existence, economically downward, as a result of these policies. And they are not going to take it anymore.

This is not a "one issue" voter bunch either. No, there are a LOT of issues, and ALL Of them cut against the interest of the Establishment.

Of course, it is in times like this that Establishment philosophers will say that this is why we have a republic and not a democracy. Republics can hold down the interests of the broad back of the people longer. But eventually the jig is up.

In 1932, the jig was up for the Republicans, who had run everything since the Civil War. Their old ideas did not work anymore, and the people were done giving them any more chances.

2016 is going to be an election like that. Trump is running as a populist. He is beholden to no one, but he LIKES the working class and middle class, and shares their values about key things.

And we know it, so we're going to vote for him, en masse, and swamp the system.

Perot tried to do this outside of the party structure, but the logic of doing it INSIDE a party - and then simply sweeping away the existing party leadership and replacing it with new people once you've won - well, that's easier, and more likely to win. Trump is a fighter, and a winner. He's winning. He's going to win.

In the aftermath of victory, I predict that he will have a massive mandate. And he will wield that mandate to maintain the ability to smash through all of his policies.

And, contrary to the whining philosophes of Establishment Republicanism, I think Trump has been quite clear:

The wall goes up and the Border closes, and the illegals are shipped out. Period.

Muslim immigration stops until we get our security house in order. Period.

We don't send in armed forces unless the war will be profitable for us. Period. We're not going to bleed selflessly to defend anybody else. Including Israel. Period.

Hedge fund guys will lose the carried interest deduction. Period.

Everybody in America will be covered by health insurance, it will not be Obamacare, and taxes will be raised as far as is necessary to cover them. Period.

The tax code will be simplified, flattened, and become more progressive. Period.

Entrenched interests are going to hate it, but they will have been expended maximal effort to defeat him in the election, and BEEN defeated, and the massive coalition of people like me and your mother in law who turn out to elect him are going to stick with him as he bludgeons through the things he's said he'll do.

It will be fun, winning for a change.

For the record Reagan skipped the final debate before Iowa.

had to refresh my memory about this because it was all over the internet how Reagan skipped the last debate before Iowa and still won the election.

This is true . On the advice of his campaign manager John Sears ,Reagan did skip the last debate ,and ended up losing the Iowa caucus to GHW Bush. Reagan fired Sears and replaced him with William Casey ,and the rest if history.

Things will be so much better after swarms of elderly crackpots who haven't taken any interest in politics and voting in decades finally come out to swamp the GOP primary for a liberal casino NYC tycoon with a reality show.

Sure, that'll make it all better.

The idea that Trump is the cure for the problems of the GOP (or the USA) is laughable. He makes things worse, not better.

Once again, you miss the big picture. Electing Trump is a huge FU to the establishment. Why wouldn't that make you happy? And if Trump fails, a replacement can be found. Citizens in this nation need to start acting like they are in charge. Who do you support?

Sears had run Reagan's 1976 campaign. Reagan's California inner circle thought that Sears was mismamanging the 1980 campaign. Specifically ,Sears had a 'Reagan is above the common candidate strategy' in Iowa. Reagan did not spend a lot of time in Iowa ,and as noted ,skipped the debate . The media called this “the imperial candidacy.” The people of Iowa reacted predictably to the snub and gave GHW Bush the win.

Reagan was doing the retail campaigning in NH ,something he was very comfortable with doing . The day after he made the “I am paying for this microphone, Mr. Green!” line in the NH debate ,Reagan made the decision to make the switch. He pulled the trigger on the day of the NH primary .

Reagan won the NH primary by 27 points and was never really slowed down after that, although Bush did win some primaries.

Reagan: Iowa Loss Allowed Him to Campaign His Way

Yep. Sears was fired after the New Hampshire vote (and victory), for running a non-confrontational and red ink campaign. Reagan abandoned the consultants' calls for conventional campaigning in favor of an "an intensely personal ground-level campaign."

Trump will get more coverage on debate day than any of the other candidates, and the cuckservatives will be left scratching their heads, pissing and moaning in frustration and confusion.

So you saying my Mother-in-Law is some elderly crackpot? How odd for you to respond to my post as such.

She is VERY active in local politics and supports local conservatives and libertarians. She gave up on the DC beltway politics for many of the same reasons people of her age here do and did.

For decades the cuckservatives have consistently betrayed their supporters. The cucks figured that Republican voters had no options in the two-party shell game. Maybe it's payback time.

Electing Trump is the START of a cure for the problems of the USA, as he could hardly make things worse.

And as Op40 says, 'if Trump fails' a replacement WILL be found. --- We are long overdue for a drastic shakeup of the existing system and a return to a republican form of government. --- Electing Trump may not be the answer, but we have to start somewhere..

Oh, but I AM honest. All the time, day in, day out. I honestly do not care about the same things you care about. I honestly do not share your values. I honestly think my values are kinder, and better.

And I have a great sense of humor about things.

I am as honest as the day is long. I'm not particularly pious, and I like to take the mickey out of things that are self-important.
